This year, the Muslim holiday of Eid El-Adha fell on the same weekend as Black Friday, the famous shopping spree tradition. Best Buy, one of the retailers participating in the event, posted a seasons greeting on one of their flyers: a little circle with Happy Eid El-Adha above the giant Thanksgiving greeting.
It was a gentle nod toward a minority group whose holiday happened to fall on the same day. It was a great gesture toward inclusiveness. No one could possibly spin glad tidings and season greetings into a negative thing, right?
Think again.
The noble gesture has caused quite an inappropriate uproar. Conservative groups like the American Family Association quickly proclaimed that this is nothing less than a war on Christmas, attacking Best Buy directly on their use of Happy Eid when they so adamantly refuse to even mention Merry Christmas on their official flyers. Never mind that thats actually not even true, as Best Buy does use the words Merry Christmas on their flyers during the holiday season.
This is the same group that is calling for a boycott of The Gap because the store had Happy Hanukkah and Happy Kwanza in addition to Merry Christmas in their recent ads.
I cant even begin to mention all the wrong things with that conclusion. But, it saddens me how many people are actually going along with that ignorant stance. This is not a so-called attack on Christmas, or anything close to it. If anything, this is really just an attack on anything thats not Christmas. The fact of the matter is that this holiday happened to lie on the same exact day as Black Friday. Christmas happens to be a month away. How this greeting could possibly be insulting to Christmas is a charge that utterly bamboozles me.

This one really brings in the Freepers. This story has been posted about 10 times so far. It is horribly enraging, for sure.
er....it’s an alleged “religion”. Hence, no racism.
I live in Columbus, but am proud to say, OH HOW I HATE OHIO STATE!!
This is America!
Merry Christmas is the holiday and this Jew is proud to say it.
Political correctness is killing America.
Cheers!
What sniveling panderers thought this one up
The anti-Christian “panderers”....they are trying to erase America’s Christian majority.
I love how the author forgets to mention that not only did BB wish everyone a happy Eid, but Thanksgiving was mentioned only in the context the stores would be open. No well wishing for Thanksgiving.
You want to control to find a niche and include muslims? Fine, that's smart capitalism. You want to alienate the majority by targeting the minority? That's like stepping over a dollar to pick up a quarter, and not very capitilistic.
a) This has nothing to do with racism. Does the author imagine that Muslims belong to some sort of special race?
b) The complaint was that they avoided mentioning Thanksgiving and Christmas, but they did manage to push a Muslim holiday by name. Did they use the word “Christmas” once? Golly gee.
It’s all “Happy Holidays” for Christians but “Eid” for Muslims, eh?
I wont be spending any money at best buys again.
They are totally missing the point. After many stores moved towards removing any mention of Christmas and simply saying “holiday”, people pushed back.
While many stores relented, others like Best Buy and Gap stuck it in the eye to Christians by simply recognizing every minor and made up holiday they could find. This way they could still marginalize Christmas and yet hide behind “but we say Christmas-see!”
The idea that all holidays are equal is crushed every December 26 when all the stores...including Best Buy, run their “After Holiday” sales. Then we learn what “holiday” they were really talking about.
"Shop Thanksgiving Day at Bestbuy.com" isn't really a "Thanksgiving greeting". Not like "Happy Eid al-Adha" is.

If Best Buy had done even rudimentary research into the holiday, they’d know that the holiday is observed by giving food to the poor, not overpriced Monster AV cables.
Looks like it’s Best Buy that’s racist.
And Happy Hanukkah to you from this Christian!
Except in 1993.
As President of the OSU College Republicans (Part of the Conservative Reformation Years at the CR’s) we lied, cheated and almost stole so we could get a conservative on the paper as the Editor and a Columnist. It was fun while it lasted. Especailly the complete control of the paper i.e. when former Gov Dick Celeste came to campus, we put him one the LAST page, while we/Cr's were on the FRONT page talking about our upcoming trip to the Conservative Political Action Committee meeting in Wash DC.
Oh well, it was fun beating those arse holes at their own game.
ALL YOUR BASE ARE BELONG TO US.
Thank You!
LOL. It’s hilarious !
Uh, someone should point out to this author that Arabs are white. It’s about whether or not White Christians have a culture worth preserving. The leftists think not and gladly join hands with anyone who wants to destroy White Christian culture. I won’t be shopping at Best Buy this year.
“But, it saddens me how many people are actually going along with that ignorant stance.”
...
“The bottom line is that being against the greeting Happy Eid is racist and being against Happy Hanukkah is anti-Semitic. These are simple facts.”
Simple facts for simple folks.
