Lord Lawson, the former chancellor, has called for an independent inquiry into claims that leading climate change scientists manipulated data to strengthen the case for man-made global warming.

This morning Lord Lawson, who has reinvented himself as a prominent climate change sceptic since leaving front line politics, demanded that the apparent deception be fully investigated.

He claimed that the credibility of the university's world-renowned Climatic Research Unit - and British science - were under threat.

Meanwhile, hopes that a legally binding treaty on cutting emissions will be agreed at Copenhagen have been boosted by the news that more than 60 world leaders plan to attend.

Last week Lord Lawson, who served as chancellor for six years under Margaret Thatcher, told The Daily Telegraph that he planned to establish a think tank to challenge the consensus that drastic action is needed to combat global warming.

This could be important, or maybe not. We need some UK Freeper to let us know whether Lord Lawson is taken seriously these days or has been tagged by the Brit MSM as a nutcase. Fingers crossed, hoping for help from the UK.

If he wasn't before, he is now.

I’m sorry—I just look at the guy and want to giggle.....He may be the smartest guy on the planet for all I know-—but he still looks like he’s got something crosswise in one of his nether orifices.

Its more along the lines of ‘Lord who? Oh wait, its Nigella Lawson’s Dad isn’t it?’

It should be investigated as a criminal activity. Laws have been enacted and tax dollars doled out because of this fraud.

Piers Corbyn has been a thorn in the UK Met Office for over a year and accurately forecast the past summer months in advance; he now says that the 18th-22nd of December will bring more violent weather out the North Sea, hot on the heels of the latest unexpected (by the Met Ofc)deluge still washing away historic landmarks Corbyn had forecast weeks ago.

Here too, we have an outsider making fools of the powers-that-be; this is the advantage of the tableside spectator — the players can’t see the table from all angles.

The response to all such criticism is the immediate dismissal of the merits of the critic.

It will be a tough haul to drag these people out of their windowless observation lounge.

NO, NO, NO!

Nigel Lawson was never an AGW supporter. He is the author of the book " An Appeal to Reason: A Cool Look at Global Warming", where he argues that even if there is warming it will have at most moderate effects, and criticises alarmist scientists and politicians. In 2004 Lawson criticised the Kyoto protocol and claimed a that there were substantial scientific uncertainties surrounding climate change. In a 2005 committee report (with Lawson as one of the members) from the House of Lords the objectivity of the IPCC was put in question.

Lawson is a good egg "climate wise" and he is also the father of Nigella Lawson(!) :

Here is where I got the mistaken idea. The wording implies to me that he has changed his position. Sorry

Yes, I saw that, but we don’t expect journalists to be able to express themselves clearly in written prose, do we?

I should know that by now, but I expect English papers to be less PC than U.S. Media. (as in AP = Always Propaganda)

Again, sorry for conveying the wrong message about Lord Lawson. I plead guilty to being totally unfamiliar with English Political Figures.
