Prayers and best wishes for ConcreteBob.

The surgery is one thing, but quitting smoking? That’s asking a lot.

Knowing you, you will leave the hospital staff cheerier than you found it.

I realize this is asking a lot, but take it easy, Bob! Because what goes around comes around, you are greatly loved....

Prayers up for a full recovery!

(Keep the Faith, my friends! We are the saviors of the Republic! Now and Forever!)

You might do many of us worrywarts out here a big service by describing how this all felt and what was the one thing that sent you to seek help.

You appear to be a fit fellow of about 45-50 years of age, a somewhat unexplained risk-related way station on the road of life.

Be glad to, because my experience was not the "elephant on the chest" description you hear about.
I had no tingling or numbness in my arms. No shortness of breath. (Note: Pain will make you hyper-ventilate, which increases O2 levels, which causes tingling in the face).
I was sitting quietly, watching NCIS, eating a Fiber One oat and peanut butter fiber bar (dipped alternately in peanut butter/vanilla icing. Yes, I know, WEIRD.)

Pain
Imagine someone holding your heart in their hand and then squeezing with all their strength. Continuous squeezing, no let up.
Thats what I experienced.
This went on all night long. That was a mistake on my part.
I refused to accept the fact it MIGHT be a heart attack and dealt with it as a super bad gas bubble which had lodged in my upper stomach area. (I have had this before and literally had to hang upside down to make the bubble move) Baking soda, alka-selzter, Pepsi, ginger ale. Nothing worked.

My wife is what got me to the hospital. I was on the Nextel radio at 0630 Thursday morning talking to my scheduler to let her know I wasn't coming in to work. My wife is asking whats wrong, and I'm explaining to my scheduler what I feel like, and my wife asks what hospital are we going to and am I ready to go yet. By 0730 I'm dressed and waiting for my wife.

Old Professer - I was wondering how long CB would wallow in the 45-50 age group before admitting his true age. I got a chuckle when you first said 45-50.

Thanks for the response; I have a Socratic tendency to over-interrogate but I am always open to knowing more, ignore me if this question is too intrusive:

Was this snip from a hearthealth site similar to what you went through on admission?:

What Is the Treatment For Unstable Angina (and NSTEMI)?
If you have either unstable angina or NSTEMI, you will be treated with one of two general approaches: a) treat aggressively with drugs to stabilize the condition, then evaluate non-invasively, or b) treat aggressively with drugs to stabilize the condition, and schedule early invasive intervention (generally, angioplasty and stenting).

I wish I had access to a scanner so I could give you the documents they gave me.
I had a myocardial infarction.(Same as George Carlin).
They did an EKG in the Emergency Room, and bloodwork to check for enzymes.
Then they did a catheterization and inserted the stent in the artery that was causing the problem.
While they were in there, they mapped the rest of the arteries and found other blockages to severe for stents.
