Disagreements over security measures have reportedly led to a scuffle between Turkish Prime Minister and US President Barack Obamas bodyguards.
Recep Tayyip Erdoğan arrived in the US on Wednesday to attend the United Nations General Assembly and the G20 summit.
According to Cumhuriyet, a Turkish daily newspaper, despite long talks, security services of the two heads of states failed to come to any agreement over organizing Erdoğans security.
Apparently, having ran out of words, Obamas bodyguards and their Turkish colleagues turned to close combat. Recep Erdoğan tried to intervene, but was manhandled by one of Obamas bodyguards and kicked out of the room. A blemish on his reputation as a peace negotiator, no doubt.
No compromise was reached, and the US side didnt allow the Turkish premiers bodyguards to use means of communication. As a result, Recep Erdoğan had to cancel his speech at the UN headquarters and return to the Plaza Hotel.
Reportedly, the security staff of the Turkish Prime Minister was replaced after the incident.
Meanwhile, the foreign ministries of the two states have not commented on the scandalous story.
So much for Obama “mending” relations and winning over Turkish hearts.
This bozo is a diplomacy trainwreck. You can take it to the bank that Turkey will retaliate against us by stirring some ruckus in Iraqi Kurdistan or drawing down troops in Afghanistan.
Great work Obozo.
Mr. ‘President of the World’. Bwwwwaaaaahahahahahahaha! Can’t wait to hear about this from the Turkish press.
But the world was supposed to love us after Obambi was elected ... ????
“Have you ever been in a Turkish prison?”
Has something like this ever happened before?
Simply put, OBOZO IS A DORK!
That's what I was thinking.
This is friggin' bizarre!
Ohh, hhmmmmm. He's a PM of Turkey?
Put a bag on his head and send him to Gitmo!
Wow, I thought giving the Queen an iPod was a diplomatic faux pas, but having your bodyguards rough up another head of government? Wars have been started for less...
Weird.
We lived in Turkey, courtesy of the USAF, and one walks around on eggshells there. At that time, if someone stole your Bible, you would be responsible and face prison without recourse as an American citizen. We were thrilled to leave, especially when we got to go to Germany. But it was a blessing to see Ephesus and the house John took Mary to.
Great.
Another international diplomatic snafu thanks under Obama’s lead.
Lovely, just lovely.
That’s an interesting web-site. Have you found them to be credible? Not being funny.
I got to to Incirlik Air Base in Adana for a period of time. I absolutely loved it. It was probably a different time period from when you were there, though. I really liked the Turkish people. I always wanted to go back, but never got the chance.
Do you remember a scuffle when President Bush stepped in to help out?
“Great work Obozo.”
Better to grovel before a disgusting Mohammedan Turk, right?
More Hope and Change.
Hope and Change!
