Apple Voiding Smokers' Warranties?
Slashdot ^ | 11/21/9 | Soulskill

Mr2001 writes

"Consumerist reports that Apple is refusing to work on computers that have been used in smoking households. 'The Apple store called and informed me that due to the computer having been used in a house where there was smoking, [the warranty has been voided] and they refuse to work on the machine "due to health risks of second hand smoke,"' wrote one customer. Another said, 'When I asked for an explanation, she said [the owner of the iMac is] a smoker and it's contaminated with cigarette smoke, which they consider a bio-hazard! I checked my Applecare warranty and it says nothing about not honoring warranties if the owner is a smoker.' Apple claims that honoring the warranty would be an OSHA violation. (Remember when they claimed enabling 802.11n for free would be a Sarbanes-Oxley violation?)"

Holy Smokes. This is an intelligent company? Was the computer still smoking while on the repair bench? What is second hand smoke, thought it was a puffy cloud being exhaled. Stupid.

I’ve read that you endanger your family in bringing home second-hand smoke particles on your clothing. Everything must go to the most absurd extreme.

Hey, what happens if the guy who brings in the computer sneezes all over the key board when he hands it over, or you notice he didn’t wash his hands after using the bathroom, or that he has a cold sore on his lip, or he has an AIDS bracelet on his wrist, or........ Just another PC (i.e., politically correct, not personal computer) example of a mental disorder on their part. When is it ever going to end?

What if I work with a person who smokes at home? The second hand smoke is in his clothes when he comes to work. It jumps off his clothes onto mine (third hand) and then onto my computer when I get home (fourth hand). Does fourth hand smoke void the warranty too?

Have you ever tried to wash the windows of a smoker? There is a very unpleasant yellow sludge that is almost impossible to remove expecially in fabrics!!

Monitors and keyboards that pimple-faced teen boys have wanked all over while viewing porn are more of a biohazard than anything else.

On the bright side, Apple is creating a third-party support market niche that a bright entrepreneur will jump on.

"Is this for real?"

My question too. I searched on Snopes, but couldn't find an entry either way.

Mr2001 has a viable lawsuit, and I’d suggest collecting damages for mental distress, lost wages, lost business income, breach of contract, unconscionability and being a stupid ass.

Collect your reward, Mr2001.

Honor the contract, you liberal losers.

There are at least 738 reasons why I didn’t need to see that.

Windex works great.......quick and easy with paper towels. Try it

What you are experiencing is airborne grease residue from excessive cooking without the benefit of an overhead fan above the stove. Or maybe you do have the fan, nevertheless, it's the grease. Try cleaning more often......I hate dirty kitchens.
