The Senate Select Committee on Ethics has completed its investigation of Sen. Roland Burris, and his office is trumpeting its finding that he committed no "actionable violations of the law." What his press release didn't mention is that the committee also found he had provided "incorrect, inconsistent, misleading or incomplete information" about his appointment to the Senate. Which is senatorese for, "Pants on fire!"

Senate Ethics Committee Clears Senator Roland W. Burris of Legal Wrongdoing, Closes Investigation
Fri, November 20, 2009
WASHINGTON, D.C. — After months of investigation into the circumstances surrounding the appointment and seating of Senator Roland W. Burris, the Senate Select Committee on Ethics has closed its inquiry and cleared the Senator of any legal wrongdoing.
In a “public letter of qualified admonition,” the Senate Ethics Committee outlined the specific areas of concern that it investigated, and conclusively found no “actionable violations of the law” occurred.
Earlier this year, Senator Burris was also investigated and subsequently cleared of any wrongdoing by the Sangamon County State's Attorney in Springfield, Illinois.
“I am pleased that after numerous investigations, this matter has finally come to a close. I thank the members of the Senate Ethics Committee for their fair and thorough review of this matter, and now look forward to continuing the important work ahead on behalf of the people of Illinois,” said Senator Burris.
In recent months, Senator Burris has emerged as a key member of the Democratic caucus as they seek to piece together the critical 60 votes needed to pass President Obama’s health care legislation through the United States Senate. He has become a strong voice for the inclusion of a strong public option, and his vote is seen as vital for final passage.
A copy of the “Public Letter of Qualified Admonition” will be available on the Senate Select Committee on Ethics’ website: http://ethics.senate.gov/.
Friday afternoon news dump.
They are on a corruption rampage.
Well, DUH... He IS a Senator... from Illinois...
Publishing that headline is the same as writing: "Leopards Don't Change Their Spots".
Clueless Chapman, in typical MSM fashion, asks the wrong question. What he should be asking is, “Why was Burris cleared by the ethics committee?”
He extorted this in exchange for his yes vote on the HCrap bill.
LOL He is a minority and above the Law, how EXACTLY is he going to be held accountable for anything???
They did that in exchange for his vote on health care....
They will throw him under the bus anyway. He has nothing to lose with a no vote tomorrow. His direct phone line is 202-224-2854.
Good grief! Never in the history of america has there been so much corruption, bribery and graft coming out of DC. I’ve never seen anything like it before. Obama and the dems are ‘in your face’ with it too!
The “ethics committee” is a bigger joke than Burris.
So we’re being told that he only cheated legally, or some such rot. That would probably be different if the GOP prevailed in the Senate.
