Hoping GM fails is like hoping US troops die in Iraq because you don’t like the President.
Stupid.
Very stupid

This is an old post. I did a search for GM and Chevy Volt. I just wanted to say that I agree with you 100%. We need GM and auto manufacturing. It would be different if we had 7 or 8 Auto Manufacturers in the US. However we are down to just 3 or maybe 2-1/2.

It's critical that we keep some manufacturing in the US and if our car companies go down you can be assured that the transplants would leave ASAP because we would have no leverage over them. They didn't want to come here in the first place. We forced them into it back in the Ronald Reagan presidency.

I don't like the UAW any more than the next guy. Heck there are people in the UAW who don't like the UAW. I would like to have seen a standard Chapter 11 rather than the program that the Democrats constructed just to save the UAW. However at the end of the day, I'd like to save the auto industry. There are lots of idiots who think transplants which do low tech final assembly are the same as having domestics but we know this isn't true. If that were true then Mexico would have a domestic auto industry because the wonderful Ford Fusion has it's final assembly in Mexico. Well we know that's a joke.

Anyway I've vented and wanted to comment on your comments. I'm in 100% agreement and my next auto (sometime in 2010) will be GM or Ford.
