I live in the county directly below Dutchess. My children live in Dutchess. Both my husband and my son (who lives there) have carrier permits for handguns...but, these permits allow them only to carry to and from hunting or a range. You can NOT take these weapons into NYC, either.

My husband has had his for probably over 40 years. I dont know if it got any easier..but, I recall he had his fingers crossed when he applied.

People who apply for legal guns are not the ones we have to worry about in this state.

Yet another Criminal Protection Zone under attack.

When will we learn that armed citizens save lives?

I don't know, Tony. We still have FReepers, who at one time swore to defend the Constitution with their lives, who think keeping certain places "gun-free" is a pretty good idea, and ridicule those who disagree.

There is no such thing as gun free. You might want to rephrase that to say “legal” gun free.

I agree with the first part of your post. As for the second part, that's why I use Sneer Quotes around "gun free"-- and, since I regard the COTUS and BOR as the supreme law of the land, I regard such zones as illegal.

Be careful of supposing what others think,ExGeeEye.

You may argue all you like. Don’t pretend to know what another thinks. That is against the rules.

"I have no idea why this is taking place,"

PC speak for "if we weren't communist teachers we could tell you everything, but this is the politically correct answer that we give the children all the time, regardless of how frustrated they get hearing it".

The rifle was of the shotgun variety.

Back then, a ‘gun incident” was missing a twelve point buck at 100 yards or less.

...or having the flu on opening day...ahhh...for the good ole days!

We will know more about this guy’s church, his “affiliations” his reading habits and his life and there will be nothing but speculation as to his motives by lunch than we will ever know about the murderous jihadist from Ft Hood..

unless he's a Rat! Journalism 101.

OK-- are "gun free" zones a good idea, or not? Should the Principal of the NY HS been able to arm himself, or not? How about the teachers? (Leave aside the students, this time.)

If not, why not?

(You started this on that other thread, by the way.)
