Fox News can confirm that Fort Hood suspect Army Major Nidal Hasan is awake and speaking to medical staff at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio.

Hospital spokesperson Maria Gallegos says he's in critical but stable condition.

A U.S. Army spokesman says Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, the suspected Fort Hood gunman, is in critical but stable condition three days after he allegedly opened fire on the military base that killed 13 and left 29 wounded.

Hasan, 39, was shot during an exchange of gunfire during Thursday's attack. The military moved him on Friday to Brooke Medical Center, where he was taken off a ventilator on Saturday.

It was WRONG to shoot a SUSPECT in this incident. He should have been read his rights and taken into custody before attempting to kill him. < /revised rules of engagement in the PC media driven world >

It’s a legalism. Until convicted by a court of law, the press has to refer to him as the “alleged” or “suspected” killer. . .

You bring up an interesting point: People think they have to say alleged when the presumption of innocence only applies to the court proceedings.

People don't have to say alleged. The act of shooting the people is real, the question of guilt or innocence in a legal sense is what the trial determines. i.e. not guilty by reason of insanity, etc.

Oh don’t worry about the insanity defense, that’s a given, the only question is what drove him “insane”...the Huffers already have a theory that he was “forced” to take meds so he could deal with the PTSD-by-association aspects of his job.

U.S. intelligence agencies were aware months ago that Army Major Nidal Hasan was attempting to make contact with people associated with al Qaeda, two American officials briefed on classified material in the case told ABC News.

It is not known whether the intelligence agencies informed the Army that one of its officers was seeking to connect with suspected al Qaeda figures, the officials said.

Look to the Sgt. Akbar case to see the likely excuses. Claimed he was “harassed”. Claimed he suffered from sleep apnea...

Crank up reruns of the old Fulton Sheen TV programs and put them on continuous play. Bring in a few pigs to waddle around the room. Pork chops for breakfast, Pork ribs for lunch and pork sausage for dinner. Make sure the prayer rug is infested with chiggers. Wish him a speedy recovery and leave a massive dose of Potasium cloride on his night stand in case he feels the urge.

The Army should insist on a military tribunal trial rather than allowing our inefficient and corrupt criminal justice system to have anything to do with him.

Once the military tribunal finds him guilty, he should be executed by firing squad as expeditiously as possible. They could even raise funds for the victim’s families by selling raffle tickets for the positions on the firing squad. Say $100 per ticket for a chance to be one of the 11 or so shooters on the firing squad. They could probably sell a million tickets.

The first thing he should have been told when he woke up is that the Hospital was short on his type of blood so they had to mix human and pig blood together to keep him alive.
