A police officer and mother of one was hailed a heroine yesterday after it emerged that she almost single handedly ended the massacre at Americas biggest military base.
Kimberly Munley does not look as if she would be much of a match for a heavily armed US soldier on a murderous rampage. But the slightly built 34-year-old civilian officer was first on the scene after Major Nidal Malik Hasan began firing on comrades at Ford Hood in Texas as they prepared to deploy to Afghanistan and Iraq. The 39-year-old psychologist killed 13 and left 31 others with serious injuries.
On Thursday afternoon Ms Munley was doing her usual job of directing traffic on the sprawling base. By chance, she and her partner happened to walk past the Soldiers Readiness Processing Centre soon after Major Hasan armed with two handguns cornered his fellow soldiers. Soldiers who witnessed the rampage described the gunfire as continuous, methodical and well aimed.
Ms Munley succeeded in bringing him down by shooting him four times, even after being hit by a bullet that passed through both her legs, according to witnesses.

We called them rent-a-cop: They guard bases all over America and the world. Never again will I ever even think that term when I think about this officers brave deed. You face down someone with a machine pistol with your handgun and you deserve all the kudos from fighting men and womenr the world over!
Why didn't they handle this?
Ha!!
OK, this makes at least the third different story. Did she drive up with her partner; was she off duty heading to the repair shop, or did she just happen to walk by?
Time for someone to get at least that part of the story straight.
Also she has another child - older child - from a previous relationship.

She wasn’t really a rent a cop like the commenter stated. She was an active duty police officer.
I haven’t seen the other stories. Maybe someone will get what really happened pieced together.
And yet there are many that still wonder about females on a police force.
You fight like you train and this lady was well trained to face danger and keep firing..on target. She determined that he was the danger..not a ally and proceeded to face him down with persistent fire.
This is the clearest, most succinct statement on the issue of "response" I've seen in years....
Now...If only the yellow scumbag bastards who cowered outside of Columbine HS had only lived by this motto!
I look at this woman and I think to my self....”here’s your 72 virgins asshole”...now if only this butthead will not make it while in the hospital and go to aller and meet up with 72 chicks that look like her and they are all shooting at him!!!!
Iraq and Afghanistan.
Once again, we have to go to Europe to get decent journalism. The U.S. media is too busy dancing around the fact that the perp was motivated by his religious beliefs.
If she was armed, she was a match for anyone. This is why women should be the biggest advocates for the 2nd Amendment.
I love that she’s a petite 5’3” (I’m the same size) and probably braver than most people of a taller stature. She’s a true heroine. But, I wish someone else had been able to react sooner to take this man down.
Obviously the spin talking points have been issued to the MSN by Axelrod from the heady precincts of the White House.
We need to change the language. I laugh about all the descriptions of this incident.
Words are used like shootings , killings , ( couched in terms as if the victims could shoot back.)
This happened at a med facility where there was a long cue for flu shots and other medical processing. The perpetrator calmly got to his feet , reached into his jacket, drew his 5.7 mm FN pistol and calmly started walking down the rows of people , pointing his weapon and shooting them calmly, point blank, in cold blood.
This was not shootings This was not killings. This was genocidal execution. These human beings were dispatched as if they were animals. One woman was 6 months pregnant.
TIME TO TELL THE TRUTH. GENOCIDAL EXECUTION is what this was.
The same sort that happened in Kenya , courtesy of Obamas tinkering there, in 2007.
OBAMAS FAULT!!!!!!!
THIS WAS AN ACT OF RELIGIOUS GENOCIDE.
THIS WAS A WAR CRIME.
Munely is a hero. She JUST HAPPENED to be walking by as the shooting was happening, a gift from God, an avenging angel who saved a lot of lives.
The biggest military base in the United States?
You know that can't be possible.
As a veteran they were on every base I was ever stationed at for security purposes.
Yes - it seems there was no one armed right where the attacker started shooting - he was inside. He likely KNEW that before he started shooting and may not have expected the rapid response from Sgt. Hunley and her partner.
Then again, he probably was expecting this to be a suicide attack and that he would not survive it.
Sometimes I am very angry he is not dead....but then - sometimes I think easy death was too good for him.
“Rent-a-cop” is what we military in my day called the Federal civilian police. The term wasn’t used with great affection.
We had an eight-year, two-theater war going on in 75-79?
Not anymore!!
God Bless Kimberly Munley
My nephew is a civilian Military cop at Fort Bragg. They are professional and well trained today. FWIW, he’s also a Warrant Officer in the National Guard and is a veteran of Iraq. His wife is a Warrant Officer helicopter pilot currently serving in Afghanistan.
They have basically taken over the police functions at Army Posts. Have not heard about the other services. Maybe a fellow Jarhead can tell us about the Corps.
thank God for her being there.......
If she was in England, she could have thrown her billy club at him; I’m sure that would have worked well.
Anderson Cooper interviewed her partner on the telephone in an exclusive interview tonight. He thought he had brought down the Major. Said he was about 15 yards away.
Would love to get an official account of the takedown. Saw the live press conference by the Army tonight and they gave no new details except that they thought the killer got off 100 rounds. DUH! I wasn’t there and I could have told you that based on the casualties.
I am very proud of the way both Sgt Munley and her partner engaged the enemy without waiting for SWAT. They are National heroes!
We still have fighter aircraft at active bases in the U.S. don't we?
I'm not trying to be glib, But where was security?
Cheers.

God bless her & give her a full recovery!
God Bless her. But she didn’t stop the evil murderer! Her superior officer did while saving HER life in the process.
