"Overseas, you are ready for it. But here, you can't even defend yourself," said Jerry Richard, a Fort Hood solider who was nearby when Major Nidal Hasan went on his shooting rampage.
What do the Pentagon bureaucrats have to say about that? If soliders on this base had been allowed to carry the weapons they use overseas, the service weapons they train with, Hasan would have been able to shoot perhaps one or two people, not 41. (As of this writing, 13 are dead, 28 wounded.)
"It's a tragedy to lose soldiers overseas and even more horrifying when they come under fire at an Army base on U.S. soil," said President Obama.
Indeed. How ironic: Survive Iraq or Afghanistan then get picked off like a game bird in a bland, institutional "Soldier Readiness Center" in Texas.
Soldiers in other countries are allowed to carry arms on base and even when they are off-duty. In Israel, for instance, soldiers are issued a rifle and then . . . it's theirs. One sees slender 18-year-old girls, traveling from base, home to the suburbs for Shabbat dinner, still slung with a massive M-16 rifle almost as big as they are. The prevelance of arms doesn't mean the country experiences the kind of random mass murders seen in the United States. It means that the few times someone has gone crazy with a gun in a city street, he was taken down fast by bystanders.
But not American soldiers. When asked if ordinary soldiers nearby had been carrying their service weapons, Fort Hood spokesman Lt. Gen Robert Cone said piously, "We do not carry weapons. This is our home." Defense is out-sourced to military police, or even oh the indignity! to civilian policemen.
This is not the first time American soldiers have been victims of politically correct policies. In 2000, Navy brass were so concerned about appearing to be "sensitive guests" in Yemen's Port of Aden, that sailors patrolling the deck of the U.S.S. Cole were not allowed to carry loaded weapons. The ship did not deploy "picket boats" and establish a perimeter. In other words, the destroyer was totally unprotected when a small motorized skiff packed with explosives steered by two men, now believed to have been al-Qaeda, plowed into it's hull, killing 17.
Even two hours after the attack, as the wounded ship listed in the harbor, sentries spotted yet another small skiff motoring deliberately toward the them. One of them raised his rifle and aimed, not to shoot them he couldn't have but in the spirit (as he told Navy Times) of "Nobody's getting near this ship." Almost immediately, his superior told him, "Let me tell you somthing about the rules of engagement. You can't point a loaded weapon at these people. That's an act of aggression."
The U.S. military would like to pretend it's not about defense and aggression, and it's sacrificed many young men and women to maintain this fiction. How many more victims of political correctness can we afford?
I asked myself yesterday, will this lead to more PC or less? I'm afraid the answer thus far is "more."
Our troops always have their weapon at the ready when deployed. Why should on-base life be any different? How could the jihadist get off so many shots before being taken down?
And how could FBI tell us so quickly this was not terrorism, before they even investigated. For example, what is on the perp's computer.
Those are only a few of the many questions I have.
Did you see this BS?
Stresses at Fort Hood Were Likely Intense for Hasan
http://www.time.com/time/nation/article/0,8599,1936085,00.html?xid=rss-topstories
While no one yet knows what ignited Major Nidal Malik Hasan’s murderous rage Thursday afternoon, Nov. 5, at Fort Hood, the kindling was hiding in plain sight. The Army had ordered Hasan, wrestling with the conflicting demands of being a soldier, a psychiatrist and a Muslim, to the post with the highest toll of Army suicides. Fort Hood is one of the Army’s most stressed posts because of its units’ revolving-door deployments to Afghanistan and Iraq. Finally, the Army made clear that Hasan couldn’t escape his own pending deployment to Afghanistan, where he’d have to salve the mental wounds of fellow soldiers killing members of his own faith.
Political Correctness is Killing US .
Ping
Someone posted something similar via NPR. That is the meme now. The first Republican and/or national leader to stand up and clearly state that is rubbish has my vote as next president. The rest of them can pound sand. This was jihadist terror, coldly calculated and carried out.
His was an act of genocide.
He calmly , in cold blood administered coups de grace to
12 people and then had to shoot randomly without accuracy as the soldiers began to gather to take him.And then he was dispatched by our heroine police officer.
GENOCIDE IS WHAT HE COMITTED. IT WAS A WAR CRIME.IT WAS ALSO TREASON IN TIME OF WAR. ANY MP COULD HAVE EXECUTED HIM ON THE SPOT. EVEN AFTER HE HAD BEEN APPREHENDED.
I suspect that the Author never spent a day in uniform.
The suggestion that the military arm every service member on every base is silly.
When are Americans going to stop making excuses for this SOB? He did what he did because he wanted to use terrorism against American Men/Women in uniform.
Wonder what all those so called “radicals of islam” are doing about right now? maybe celebrating the death of Americans killed by a freaking muslim jihadi.. America needs to wake the heck up and realize whats going on.
Just wondering..
Absolutely. Dennis Prager was saying this morning, even the term political correctness is politically correct!! We’re speaking THEIR language!!
Damn, somebody pull the plug on the POS.
“PC is killing us.”
12 or our best dead today because some pinhead said we have to let Moslems serve in our armed forces.
It’s only me, but I have said, just about all Moslems from mideast need to be deported. It is DUMB for the US to allow people with a differet culture and different idea of “truth” in our country (we are already carrying the libtards on our backs after all). Heck even in a game like Age of Empires you see what happens when you open your borders to others. The Muslems need not be oppressed. God gave them some of the richest parts of the earth. Let them stay there and prosper (truly).
the Fort Hood general said something to the the effect that the Army is at war, but the nation isn’t. Bingo.
Well then why did the Muslim Bortherhood, erh, CAIR release the following statement, yesterday and within hours of this terrorist act:
“We condemn this cowardly attack in the strongest terms possible and ask that
the perpetrators be punished to the full extent of the law. No political or
religious ideology could ever justify or excuse such wanton and indiscriminate
violence. The attack was particularly heinous in that it targeted the
all-volunteer army that protects our nation. American Muslims stand with our
fellow citizens in offering both prayers for the victims and sincere
condolences to the families of those killed or injured.”
Who got it right? The muslims or the FBI apologists?
The innocent soldiers are victims of political correctness. They are innocent lambs sacrificed on the altar of PC. The left is responsible for their deaths.
"Stresses at Fort Hood were Likely Intense for Victims of Murderous Jihad and the Families of Those Whose Unarmed Loved Ones Were Gunned Down in Cold Blood by a Man Screaming Allahu Akbar..."
There, I fixed it.
Deportation of Muslims would be a welcome act in my book.
However, the question arises...how do we deport our own President?
Throw his butt on a plane and scream “so long sucker”..
Darn, the Army HAD to be aware of what this man is. Were they too indimidated to do anything about it? Were they too overruled by stupid regulations that end up allowing things like this to happen?
YES. Political Correctness is ruining the country.
Big surprise!
When ALL of us thought “Islamic radical” first thing,
everyone was doing cartwheels to try to keep from having
to release that information!
I am afraid that this will keep this monster from getting
the punishment he deserves, too!
Another ‘gun free zone’ triumph. How long before we hear calls for gun confiscation?
In the hold a of a rusty, Liberian-registered toxic waste hauler.
