It's a mystery. Probably one that will never be solved: (From Associated Press) Soldiers who witnessed the shooting rampage at Fort Hood that left 13 people dead reported that the gunman shouted "Allahu Akbar!" — an Arabic phrase for "God is great!" — before opening fire, the base commander said Friday....
The motive for the shooting wasn't clear, but Hasan was apparently set to deploy soon and had expressed some anger about the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Personally, I blame Bush. Update by Barbarossa: Instapundit adds this tidbit:
On NPR I heard — I can’t find the story on their website yet — that he had given a presentation on the Koran at a professional conference where he claimed that unbelievers should be beheaded, burned, etc. to the discomfiture of the attendees.
But nobody saw this coming...
The military really needs to take a close look at the mosque this guy attended. He didn’t come up with these killings all on his own. I would bet on it.

Uh, Fox news is totally perplexed too. I think it was Bill Hemmer
asking a psychologist the motivation. The psychologist thought
the man must have had some mental issues and did not want
to be deployed. Nothing else mentioned.

The stupidity on display here by the AP would be comparable to Chickens wondering what’s the problem with Col Saunders guy.

Has anything good ever happened after someone shouts “Allahu Akbar”? Do Chritians shout “Praise Jesus” then start murdering people? What is wrong those people?

Snip: U.S. Rep. Michael McCaul, a Republican from Austin, was briefed by military officials and said Hasan had taken some unusual classes for someone studying about mental health.
“He took a lot of extra classes in weapons training, which seems a little odd for a psychiatrist,” McCaul said.
As usual the media is avoiding the obvious.
A Muslim stands on a table, shouts Allah Akbar before slaughtering 13 people and injuring another 30, and they wonder what caused this outrage.
Yes - i think we found it. Hasan is a victim too!!
