I cannot believe it! The press (fox news') Shep Smith was doing an interview with Kay Bailey Hutchinson (R-TX) and both of them just admitted that they had had a name (MAJ Hassan Malik) and both refused to name the MUSLIM NAME!

I timed it. CNN took 15 minutes to name the name after I read it on ABC, Drudge and others.

What you say is true. But if it had been a non-arabic name they would have been repeating it over and over. Whether he is Muslim or not is no reason not to put the name out there.

I don’t much care for Shep, but I doubt that the Muslim name was his reason for holding back-— he didn’t want to release the name until it was confirmed. He did say to Hutchison, and she confirmed, that the name would say a lot about the situation. I knew what he meant, and I hadn’t heard the name before then. What else could he have meant?

It’s a little surprising, because once the AP has reported something like this name, the broadcasters typically always will rely on the AP for fact reporting.
Notice that Shep and Hutchison were happy to speculate on the shooter’s motivation being unhappy with the US involvement in Iraq, but they considered it out of bounds to discuss his name or the fact that he was a convert to muslim.
You can bet your sweet bippy they’d be repeating the name if it was BUFORD WAYNE CHRISTIANSEN.
Shep said not reporting it was “the right thing to do” even while acknowledging the AP was reporting it. He had no problem reporting people will killing and raping eachother in the Super Dome.

Baybe ABC News needs to be 50% sure to run something, and Fox needs to be 99% sure.
