And Romney was nowhere to be seen.
BY BRENDAN MINITER
Amidst the stunning events in New York's 23rd congressional district -- with Republican-turned-independent Doug Hoffman suddenly surging to the front and likely to win today's race -- collateral damage has been suffered by some of the GOP's presidential hopefuls who misread the race and the mood of the Republican electorate.
Mitt Romney -- formerly a man who seemed willing to show up and plug for any Republican anywhere to pick up a few chits -- was nowhere to be seen in the district. Mike Huckabee, a favorite for religious conservatives who demonstrated a gift for gab in last year's Republican presidential primaries, materialized at an event near the district last week but didn't venture into it or speak up for Mr. Hoffman.

Make Gingrich stand in the hole he has dug for himself next to Robert Reich.
Shovel ready jobs
How stupid do you have to be (or “moderate”) to not read the landscape on this?
HEY NEWT, MITT AND HUCK, REPUBLICANS ARE SICK OF RINOS! GET IT?!
And notice that McCain is so far gone he isn’t even mentioned?
Newt doesn't look like a leader for the simple reason that he isn't one. He's not all that bright, either.
Rudy - RINO Lite but nice guy
Huck - RINO Lite
Mitt = RINO to RINO Lite (he helped Bachmann when the RNC cut off her money)
McCain - DIABLO
Graham-nesty - DIABLO
Dede - DIABLO
Crsit - DIABLO
Because they’re completely insulated by the Washington political bubble they live in. I honestly don’t think they have any idea what’s going on “out here”.
They’ve forgotten who they work for.
LOL!
I think they did us all a favor by sitting this one out. They can compete for the RINO wing of the GOP. The rest of us should unite behind a bonafide conservative.
I can think of none better at giving the lunatic left the heebie jeebies than Sarah.
Gingrich and Romney are the past. Accept it gracefully, guys, and enjoy retirement with collegiate speaking opportunities.
“Make Gingrich stand in the hole he has dug for himself next to Robert Reich.”
Has Hannity had his “Good Buddy” Newt on his show lately?
Did not listen today or yesterday.
You know it’s bad when you look up to see Tom Daschle towering over you.
“Make Gingrich stand in the hole he has dug for himself next to Robert Reich.”
Wouldn’t be too much digging involved.
Newt destroyed his credibility when he sat on the couch with Nancy and lied about man-made global warming. We know whe would lie, but Newt doing it was something else entirely.
Dede shouldn’t wear hot pink. She is more of a “fall” person. Good ridance to bad rubbish.
Gingrich has been digging for a while. The question Hannity should ask him is: “Newt, when are you going to stop digging?”.
That’s funny. Scozafavva’s rally and everyone is holding up Hoffman signs. Serves her right.
Mitt and Huck had their fingers in the water, trying to test the temp, neither one of them having the conservative principles that would make them jump in. I’ve said on a number of occasions that Mitt might be an asset to Sarah’s administration, but that needs to be rethought. The company of weak-minded, self-serving, wishy-washy procrastinators isn’t what Sarah will need to lead the country out of the mess Obamao and the commies are going to leave.
Ugh! that’s what she looks like?? No wonder why she’s so bitter.
Let’s make sure that Hoffman actually wins this race, because if he doesn’t, we’ll never hear the end of the “I told you so’s” from the party boys.
NO ONE should wear that shade of hot pink unless they are a school crossing guard!
or Bawney Fwank yuck
Now, that's not nice. Anyway, I don't see Reich standing in any...oh, wait a minute. Yeah, in that hole over there. Is that the top of Reich's toop or is it a mule-stomped gopher?
First thing you know, Hoffman may be running for Prez.LOL
“Thats funny. Scozafavvas rally and everyone is holding up Hoffman signs. Serves her right.”
Paraphrasing the late great Mae West, "Luck had nothing to do with it." And there's a big difference between looking like a leader and being a leader. Thankfully for us, Sarah manages both.
RINO, OR DIABLO? We have to make up our minds which as we are splintered enough with the existing war on RINO’s.
We don’t need to confuse the issue with Mark Steyn’s “DIABLO” lingo.
I say we stay with the “RINO” lingo describing the Leftism within the Republican Party as that is what everybody knows.
Well, I already promised Impy that I'm writing him in on my 2012 ballot, LOL.
So you are saying Mitt was to busy even to announce an endorsement? Must be a busy busy man.....
Mitt Romney: Im not a partisan politician, he said in an interview with The Post that fall. My hope is that, after this election, it will be the moderates of both parties who will control the Senate, not the Jesse Helmses.
And Mitt should speak up if he has anything conservative to say.
But he does not. Only socialized medicine, more taxes
called "fees", and Romney for himself.
America already has a Narcissist-in-Chief.
Thanks for the new tagline.
As good as that is, it is close to the truth, the Van Jones loving Meg Whitman is Romney's handpicked candidate for Governor of California, he has even bought a house here to promote his protege.
If Sarah is not on the ballot in 2012, I’m writing her in.
What a disparaging remark about a man not here to defend himself! Jesse Helms was a man of principle, and whether one agreed with him on certain issues or not, the fact is that this nation's liberty would not be endangered in the manner it is today had Republicans remained as true to the Constitution as Helms.
Mitt Romney disapproved of Jesse Helms just as he disapproved of President Reagan, Romney dropped his Republican party membership in protest of President Reagan and his conservatism, he also spoke out against the Contract with America.
A young barely military age Mitt Romney joined his father in storming out on Goldwater at the 1964 convention. When Bill Clinton was running against President Bush in 1992, Romney was only giving money to liberal Democrat candidates and even conducted a democrat fund raiser himself. In 1994 Romney was fund raising for Planned Parenthood.
All of newtie’s wives have said he’s very short.
The same, I'm thinking, with Sean Hannity. I've listened to him over the last month sporadically, but as big as this story is, I can't remember one segment in which he endorsed Hoffman over Scozzafava prior to when a Hoffman win became obvious.
Please correct me if I'm wrong, because I'm sorely disappointed over it.
I'm saddened over Gingrich, because I think there was a time when he truly was a conservative. He's one who is worth restoring.
How to take back the academic world? Send conservatives into the new and the small universities and develop a counter-liberal tradition in the smaller, newer, or community colleges. They are reaching the bulk of the people.
Standing on the sidelines, hoping we forget they refused to take a stand.
I actually respect Newt more tan these two cowards, because as wrongheaded as he was, at least he had the courage to takes a stand and stick with it.
He was so instrumental in getting the Pubs to a majority I hate to see him so wrong.
The problem in 23 is there was no primary. A leftist, more left than the Rat, was given the nomination. The fact this happened highlights the problem of the local party leaders being out of touch with who they are working for.
If nothing else 23 has shown the GOP how critical it is to field real conservatives, or expect a challenge. My view is I will fight like heck in the primaries and support the nominee in the general election. The only caveat I have is the candidate in the general has to support more of what I believe in then not.
