Democratic Senator John Kerry said Tuesday he would be "surprised" if US President Barack Obama does not announce his decision on troop levels in Afghanistan before leaving for Asia on November 11.
"I'm just speculating, I don't have any inside scoop on this, but I would be surprised if he wants to leave it hanging while he's out of the country for that long a period of time," said Kerry, a close Obama ally.
The US president leaves Washington on November 11 and remains in the region for eight days, with stops in Japan, Singapore, China and South Korea.
"I suspect the president would probably want to make a decision on that before he goes off to (Asia)," said Kerry, who played a key role in brokering a run-off election in war-torn Afghanistan. "He's got a fairly long trip."
"Let's see where they wind up, but that would be my own gut," said the Massachusetts lawmaker, who chairs the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
Obama, who faces mounting criticism that he is dithering on his fateful decision, said late Monday he will not rush to judgment on whether to send tens of thousands more troops to Afghanistan.

Good, the Taliban are waiting...
Love the way Kerry has just elbowed Hillary all the way off the stage. She’ll need to take some remedial pompous a** classes to catch up. Actually, she’s looking better every day compared to BO and Biden and Kerry.
Who is this guy the town crier?
Crap, are the election results going to be validated that quick. I doubt it.
You have to admit that dims are very consistant when it comes to losing wars. Lurch should be ware of returning military vets.
Its a Nero story...Obama playing the fiddle as our troops are hung out to dry by his politics. WAKE UP Barak, the lives of these brave soldiers don’t deserve your political procrastinations.
How many days has it been since they requested more troops?
October 2009 is the deadliest month for US troops in Afghanistan since the war started 8 years ago.
While Obama has resisted calls for more troops.
Obama has killed American troops with his dithering.
...and failing miserably, as usual.
But I've heard the senior Senator from MA served in Vietnam...
Lurch should beware of ALL military vets
That would be a big surprise, Obama apoligizing for the US. He should consider McAurther’s conservative estimate that it would have required 1 million casualties to take the islands conventionally. Ah, but what does he care, he hates American successes and panders to everyone.
STFU, you pompous traitor. Gawd, if there’s anyone close to the jOker in loving the sound of his own voice, it’s Jon Carry.
Due to our faggy president our boys are in peril and are getting hurt more in Afghanistan. 0bama could care less because he is not a US president. He is a foreigner who got elected president
Too much of 0bama was formed by foreign alien influences such as his years living in Indonesia where he went to Koran classes. Plus his two Muslim fathers that abandoned him. Also growing up in Hawaii was extremely multi-cultural compared to growing up in Indiana and even Massachusetts or California
>>admit the attacks were war crimes.
HE CAN’T DO THAT.
Heck, secretly even Japanese civilians were relieved that the war was over after the Bombs because then they wouldn’t have to implement the resistance plans put together by the Army to inflict as many casualties on Americans as they could by utilizing men, women, seniors and chidren to conduct a guerrilla war on the Islands of Japan.
I heard John Stewart call Truman a war criminal this past August. But he would have supported dropping the Bomb on Germany!
Prediction: He will announce a troop increase then visit and get a bounce in the polls from that and the health care bill.
Love the way Kerry has just elbowed Hillary all the way off the stage

Did Hillary get the Memo?
Thought the same thing when I heard Kerry blubbering away about the “President’s Decision”.
BTW......John Kerry did serve in Vietnam.
