Political Grapevine: ABC's Jake Tapper Asks Robert Gibbs on FOX News Attacks - 10/20/09

A day after key White House officials declared the Fox News Channel wasn't a news organization, President Obama met with MSNBC personalities Keith Olbermann and Rachel Maddow.
Talk about your delicious hypocrisy.
Fittingly, the news was broken by FNC's Bret Baier during Tuesday's "Special Report" (video embedded below the fold with transcript, relevant section at 1:45, h/t Hot Air via NBer Thomas Stewart):
BRET BAIER, HOST: And finally, during this morning's off-camera White House briefing with reporters, ABC's Jake Tapper asked Press Secretary Robert Gibbs about the ongoing White House attacks on FOX News Channel.
After being asked about the charge that FOX isn't a real news organization, Gibbs answered, quote "We render opinion based on some of their coverage and the fairness of that coverage."
Tapper: "That's a sweeping declaration that they're not a news organization. How are they different from say, ABC, MSNBC, Univision?"
Gibbs: "You and I should watch around 9:00 tonight or 5:00 this afternoon."
Tapper: "I'm not talking about the opinion programs or issues you have with certain reports. I'm talking about saying that thousands of individuals who work for a media organization do not work for a news organization. Why is that appropriate for the White House to say?"
Gibbs: "That is our opinion."
Well, the White House's strong opinions about our opinion shows - - Glenn Beck runs at 5:00 p.m. and Sean Hannity at 9:00 p.m. -- apparently do not extend to similar shows on other networks.
A White House official confirms to us that the audience for Monday's off the record briefing with President Obama included MSNBC personalities Keith Olbermann and Rachel Maddow.
Hmmm. So the White House thinks Fox isn't a news organization because it has a perspective, and specifically points fingers at Beck and Hannity.
What does the Adminstration think Olbermann and Maddow have?
I guess it's not a problem for a new organization and its members to have a perspective so long as it's one the White House shares.

They are not really a news organisation any more, and going on their Stank Freak show lineup is just an excercise in getting abused. All Republicans should refuse to be interviewd by anyone from MSNBC. They are no longer a news channel, if you ever thought they were. They are frothing at the mouth lying DemoScum propagandists, and no good can come from consorting with them...various forms of STDs...but no good.;

You tell me how Oberman and Maddow differ from talk radio! I don't listen to either of them but I don't believe they would be confused with journalists or news anchors.
Maybe so, but I do agree the best revenge is for FNC to keep doing what they are doing, and let the falsity of Obama, his Admin goons, and their MSM thralls, be the spot that outs themselves. FNC need not protest too much. The people will eventually realise whose really the ones feeding them horse shit, and who they will decide to watch no matter how much either side protests the other...And that is not going to be good for Obama, his goons or the credibility of the MSM who heel to his voice.

Actually, I don’t think FNC has “whined or acted like they give a sh*t” - they’ve pretty much acted as if the whole thing is funny and ridiculous - which pretty much ensures that the WH looks funny and ridiculous.....FNC is winning this whole “war” thing - by their take on it.....and the more Beck makes fun of them with the red telephone, the worse the WH looks.....not the WH per se, but the zero administration....I loved today when he claimed he wasn’t losing sleep over FNC....wanna bet????

Brett was just talking about it....It kills me to say this, but I’m proud of the other news outlets for standing up to these imbeciles - once in a lifetime maybe, but proud of them nonetheless.......I think Jake Tapper has become something of a hero for asking the tough questions - who’d a thunk someone from ABC would take on um um um er er er Gibbs...hell, even Helen Thomas is po’d about this stupid “war” the WH has declared on FNC.....miracles do happen.....
