White House press secretary Robert Gibbs singled out specific shows on the Fox News network for criticism ...
... Tuesday morning, continuing a public feud between the White House and the cable network that gained new momentum over the weekend.
Meeting with reporters in his office for an off-camera question-and-answer session, Gibbs parried questions about the White House's harsh criticism of the cable news network, leveled on several Sunday shows by officials including White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel and senior adviser David Axelrod.
Asked if it was fair for the White House to label Fox an illegitimate news organization, Gibbs replied: "We render opinion based on some of their coverage and the fairness of their coverage."
When a reporter pressed further, asking Gibbs to explain more specifically how Fox differed from ABC, MSNBC or Univision, the president's spokesman pointed to two shows in particular as sources of concern.
"You and I should watch sometime around 9 tonight or 5 this afternoon," Gibbs said, alluding to the 5 p.m. show hosted by Glenn Beck and the 9 p.m. program anchored by Sean Hannity.

Of course, O’reilly is doing a victory dance that he hasn’t been singled out. Wonder why? LOL.
The regulation of media has intensified...look for Beck and Hannity to get a visit from their friendly neighborhood IRS auditor next.
This is a feather in Sean’s cap - hopefully he will refrain from beating it to death.
Bring it on you clowns in the White House....THIS ISN’T NAZI GERMANY!!!!
morning, m’lady ... a WH full of whining ninnies. They should be embarrassed, but aren’t. Libs never are, even when they’re making a total arse of themselves.
Poodle Oreilly gets a pat on the head by his master Obama. He must love those milkbones....LOL!
I guess I missed where either Hannity or Beck were classified as News programs v. Opinion shows? I guess they must believe Olberman is a hard-news program.
Time for Cavuto to man up!
Mornin’, sofa.
You know it’s bad when even Helen Thomas tells them to stop.
Sean and Glen have led the investigations on obama’s radical associations- - Ayers, Wright, Jones, ACORN, Dunn ... that must have left a mark!
Steady as she goes, guys! Next, start a fact check on Axelrod and Rhambo...
Pffft! Like that's going to happen.
Try doing a tequila shot every time Sean says that "I'm a Reagan Conservative". You'll be face down in the guacamole by the end of his first hour.
Having said that, his heart is in the right place, and he's a truly decent, if infuriating, guy.
Reveals the Administration's small mindedness and at the same time provides a whiff of the Obama brand of tyranny. They will brook no dissent.
At least GWB took media criticism like a man and didn’t whine about it or single out a particular outlet. Obama and minions are pure classless and manipulative like the spoiled children that they are!
Axelrod- Soros’s poodle!
Maybe the administration should focus on the fact that we have soldiers out fighting a war? Maybe also spend a few minutes considering the economy?
I think somebody should go back to community organizing...
Uh, can you say Van Jones? Bet he takes his "attacks" seriously. What about ACORN being defunded? Bet they're taking his attacks seriously.
It's so obvious what they're trying to do that it's laughable. Every time they come out against Beck just let's us know that Beck is effective...otherwise, they (the WH) wouldn't have any criticism.
Those are political opinion shows.
Beck I enjoy especially when he uses humor,
Hannity is an easily outwitted RNC hack. Hannity debated Micheal Moore on his show last week and couldnt even defend Christianity from Moore’s claim that Jesus was a Marxist calling on Rome to raise taxes for health care. Moron!
So this clown, Gibbs, has just elevated Beck and Hannity to the level of the President when discussing issues...
Oopsie!
Of course, neither of those are news shows.
Cavuto seems to have been forced to countenance a number of administration and “progressive think tank” obamaconomy apologists on his business show ... you can see he gets annoyed with their vapid stupidity and parroting of administration talking points...
Bring it on you clowns in the White House....THIS ISNT NAZI GERMANY!!!!
Cavuto is also a Fox News VP. He has to play the business end of the game more than the others.
If you’re taking flak, you are over the target.
Mathews, Maddow, olberman, Shultz
does anyone think these are “news” programs??
NOOOOOOOOO!!!!
Lol - having never tasted tequila, I would likely be face down at the end of the first shot!
I believe Sean is a very decent guy and pretty much agree with him. His delivery is just so shrill, so worked up. If he could make his points without the anger and sarcasm, I’d watch him more. I guess I just like being spoken to rather that hollered at....
Commies hate being outed. Shocker.
You want to learn about Axelrod's communist upbringing? Read this:

Miss Judy, I would agree with you completely.
Maybe Maddow, Olberman, and Schultz get a pass for being mentally unstable? An affirmative action thing?
OPINION PROGRAMMING YOU JACKASS. Not the news hours...how about we watch MSNBC FROM 6 PM TIL 10 PM?
The administration has 2 objectives in attacking Fox, and both are currently working:
1. They want to change the subject. Fox was doing an excellent job of reporting the facts on the health-care debacle. Now that they’re under attack, they’re responding to the attacks, wasting precious air-time on meaningless responses. Point to Obama;
2. When Fox was reporting on the health-care debacle, and also led the charge in the dismissal of radicals like Van Jones, other networks were starting to feel the pressure to cover at least SOME of this news. They’re now effectively being warned by the administration that they better toe the line, or would likely face similar attacks. Point to Obama.
Fox is responding in exactly the wrong way. Rather than respond the the attacks, they should reserve an empty chair at every round-table that is broadcast for an “Obama Administration Official”. Of course, an official will be invited to every round-table and, unless they change tactics, will decline. Fox just needs to point this out, save a place at the table for them to “discuss and defend” their position, and then let viewers reach the natural conclusion that you can’t defend the indefensible.
BOR is such a piece of puke! He’s such a phony....I wish his ratings would tank.
Well, not yet at least.
Heard a guy on satellite radio a little earlier (not sure who it is on Sirius Patriot 144)....anyhoo...he referred to Axelrod as Axelass. Made me LOL!
Well, at least ‘bammy realized his error in attacking an organization instead of an individual.
Uncle Saul will be so proud.
“Asked if it was fair for the White House to label Fox an illegitimate news organization Gibbs replied:
“We render opinion based on some of their coverage and the fairness of their coverage.””
That constitutes a non-answer, yet the questioner (I can’t call him a journalist) allowed it to stand.
The question was bogus, anyway. It’s not a matter of “fairness” but a matter of appropriateness and propriety.
This is going to bite the WH in the buttocks, IMHO. This really should awaken the missing journalistic spirit of the lethargic legacy media. (But I won’t hold my breath.)
If BOR had to go against Glenn Beck at 8, BOR would lose.
I don’t remember the Bush White House singling out Keith Olbermann when he was trashing the president.
Did you notice a couple of months ago that Sean seemed to be trying to lower the pitch and slow things down a bit? I wondered if they were trying to adjust his tone just a tad.....it didn’t last long, so I thought perhaps I had imagined it. It was a definite improvement, though.
O’Reilly hasn’t been running the tapes of Dunn touting Mao as one of her favorite political philosophers, nor has he been exposing the Obama agenda for control of the media that Dunn is on tape explaining.
9pm on MSNBC: Rachel Maddow- a political opinion show
It isn't the format the WH doesn't like, its the opnion, plain and simple. If Gibbs is saying the 5 and 9pm slots aren't news, then what are they on other networks?
You know the answer.
Why don’t they just come right out and admit it. They want to do away with the first amendment!
The other moron media outlets who do not react with outrage over this don’t even see that it is a threat to everyone’s freedom. Maybe even theirs someday.
Agree with you completely...Also, unfortunately for Sean, by the time his show comes on at 9 PM, the news of the day is already old, as it’s been talked about all morning, noon, afternoon, and through the dinner hour. Combine that with his shrill tone, and...well, I’d rather watch House Hunters.
“I guess I missed where either Hannity or Beck were classified as News programs v. Opinion shows? I guess they must believe Olberman is a hard-news program.”
Ann Coulter once said it best about Olbermann. I have to give her the credit for this witty quip. She said, “he has gone from goverment watchdog to government lapdog.”
