Dick Morris: How much ObamaCare costs the average family
The Hill ^ | October 16, 2009 | Dick Morris and Eileen McGann

Posted on 10/17/2009 1:00:26 AM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

Whether or not you now have health insurance, Obama’s healthcare bill will cost you dearly. If you don’t have insurance, you will be required to buy it. The legislation specifies how much you will have to pay for the coverage before any subsidy kicks in. All during the campaign, Obama kept speaking about affordable coverage. Now it appears that his definition of “affordable” might be a bit elastic.

* If your household income is $66,000 a year, slightly above the national average, Obama’s healthcare bill will require you to spend 12 percent of your income — about $8,000 a year or almost $700 a month — to buy health insurance before you get any federal subsidy.

* Even those making less will have to reach deep into their meager resources to satisfy Obama’s statutory requirement. Families scraping by on only $44,0000 a year will have to pay 7 percent of their income (about $3,000) on insurance.

* Even those making just $33,000 will have to ante up 4.5 percent of their income (about $1500) for health insurance.

* The required payments reach so far down the scale that those who are living at the federal poverty level of $22,000 will have to shell out 2 percent of their totally inadequate incomes ($440) for insurance. That Obama is charging premiums to those living at or on the border of poverty is absolutely incredible! And this from a candidate who pledged that he would not tax the middle class! If you have insurance, you will get hit by his proposed 40 percent tax on insurance premiums.

• When the tax — and the legislation — takes effect in 2013, all families making about $120,000 or more in combined household income (14 percent of all families or one in seven) will have to pay the tax.

• By the next year, 2014, the tax will hit every family making more than $100,000 (about 18 percent of all families or one in six)

• By 2019, 10 years hence, the tax will reach down to effect every family making more than $75,000 a year (31 percent of families or one in three).

The tax will take 40 percent of all premiums above $21,000.

So if you don’t have insurance, you will be socked with a mandate to buy coverage and pay a hefty proportion of your income to do it and if you have insurance, you will be hit with an excise tax on the coverage.

(In theory, it is the insurance companies that have to pay the tax, but the Senate Finance Committee “assumes” that they will pass the tax along to their policyholders.)

I'd like to see the Democrats and RINOs sell this next year.

The average family will think they are all patriots for paying taxes.

How is it possible that every one of those shysters would not be thrown out of office next year over this.

If this alone is not enough to completely turn out the legislators who vote for it, then I will consider that someting awfully powerful is being put in that swine flu vaccine.

Just to emphasize - this is all about giving cheap health care to low income blacks and illegal aliens which everybody else will have to pay for . Some sort of bill will pass - count on it . This is just another reason why we must keep on the BC issue . Obama must be brought to trial . This is 100 times bigger than Watergate .

To be honest....2013 and 2014 are the easy years over this...it just keep building after that point.

I think by 2016...most guys making $50k or more...will get the idea to buy a cabin...quit their job and just live off 40 acres and a garden...letting the working class pay for their health-care requirements. It’d be curious if we have 50,000 people in one year who just quit working at age 45 and have no real income to report.

It'll all go underground — creative ways in how not to report. Some will claim personal insanity and avoid taxes by having a doctor's note that says, due to their illness, they just work 20 hours a week as a cabinet maker. The real hippie cabinet makers will then be force to change careers and some will inevitably become investment bankers by embracing their dark side. Most people will love to pay taxes because Obama tells them so. It will be reparations for all of America's injustice and they, the public, will love it.

I constantly tell my liberal friends that all this socialism does is produce a country of dishonest people.

Just look at Russia and other communist and socialist countries.

As you restrict people more and more, they are forced into the realization that to survive that have to lie and sneak around the rules, and form black markets.

As Obamacare and socialism rises, look for the natural goodness and honesty of the American people to disappear.

The corruption that everyone complains about in third world countries is a natural result of socialism.

Just bears repeating; we can't continue to ignore the reality of what's going on just to be politically correct.

My tag line shows the mentality of The Messiah's voterbase. 95%+ of blacks voted for The Messiah, and NOWHERE was this FACT pointed out to the public. The slim majority of voters who chose The Messiah over the weak-kneed McClame are basically those who suffer from Liberal Guilt, or are content to live off the earnings of others that is handed to them in the worst case of wealth redistribution this country has ever seen. Keeping the losers and non-producers on their side is done with other peoples' money all the time now, and the more they can come up with that flows to the parasitic populace, the better they like it.

Apparently the unions are up in arms about this tax. So, I'm sure the bill will be amended to exclude them from having to pay the tax.

Should this happen and the bill passes, could a case conceivably brought before the Supreme Court? Unfair taxation or something like that?

I've already started down that path. It can be done, more easily than one might think. If you're single in a rural area like ours, you can live on way less than $20k/yr, very comfortably. My living expenses come from a trust and I already have all the toys I need, and all the living space, and all the clothes. If I were not honest I could easily get all kinds of freebies from the govt, including property tax discounts and free heat all winter. 0bamacare would be paying me.

IMO, everyone should have a longterm strategy to get through the next decade or so, because it's going to be awfully bumpy. Plan on being one of the poor, not one of the productive, if you want to survive. Think about putting some buffer space between yourself and your wealth, the documented and taxable wealth. Store up what you can store, that you think you'll need in a crunch (gold...lead...food and water). If you don't have one, I suggest you don't buy a puppy, much less have more kids. If you have kids, teach them at home.

The more people opt out of the govt-enabling class, the easier it will be to starve the govt into submission instead of the other way around.

Is such the following scenario coming in the future too?.....

Knock Knock...”We are your authorized Health Care Inspectors. We are authorized by federal law to enter and inspect your premises for compliance with the Federal Affordable Health Care Act. Along with authorized bi-annual inspections, you are authorized to complete and sign, in it’s entirety, the Health Care Act Compliance Form. Furthermore, if you (or any and all residents of said premises) own or possess any firearms, you and your household must answer and comply with a complete Tier II separate physical and mental health examination, together with the provision of periodic random inspections of said premises, (including safety and insurance for any and all firearms.) You will also see, included on the compliance form, a comprehensive list of all health related authorized inspections, and necessary follow-up health inspections, for Tier I, Tier II, and Tier III. (A separate list of fees for each of these services is provided; see the attachment schedule provided with your Affordable Health Care Act Compliance Form.)” “Random inspections may be authorized from time to time to ensure quality maintenance.”

Comin down the pike?

If our government continues down the current path, the short answer to your question is: yes .

IMHO, if any group, like unions, is exempt, it’s discrimination.

That’s sort of my plan, too, but I don’t have a trust fund. I figure if things keep up as they are, I’ll eventually lose my house anyways, give away any assets to loved/trusted ones, and live off the government in jail until the system is overloaded. Just imagine if a majority of the wealth producing population did just that. And our “crime” will be passive resistance to tyranny.

Remember what happened when Hawaii offered “free” health care to children? EVERYONE dropped coverage on their kids and the system was overwhelmed and I think ditched in 9 months.

Its going to be enormously unpopular. When the taxes take effect, people will see what Obamacare is all about... unfortunately though, not until Obama is well into a second term.
