In Norway they may think that President Barack Obama has a great knack for peace, but around here his forte seems to be stirring up strife.
New Orleans is mad because Obama's visit tomorrow will be little more than a whistlestop.
The Mississippi Gulf Coast is mad because New Orleans gets all the attention, such as it is, while the lingering effects of Katrina over there are ignored.
And from southwest Louisiana comes the cry, "What about Rita, Gustav and Ike? The president really needs to take a look at Cameron Parish."
Obama is also being denounced for an apparent lack of curiosity about the incredible shrinking wetlands.
The original announced White House plan was for Obama to fly way down yonder merely in order to hold a "town hall" before beetling off to California for a fund raiser.
Members of our congressional delegation took turns demanding evidence of a little more concern for the state of the recovery, and the protests did not go unheeded. Soon came the announcement that Obama would make time to visit the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Charter School in the Lower 9th Ward.
That did not smooth over any feathers in other parts of the region, where hordes of bedraggled storm victims grow weary of the constant harping on the Lower 9th.

Pelican State ping
O is trolling for votes. The plight of the citizens is unimportant.
How many years, and they haven’t picked things up yet?
At what point do they think charity turns into contempt?
Here’s an idea; every week you take a garbage bag and fill it with debris. If 1% of the bums there would do this, the place would have been picked clean years ago.
Basking in their relative closeness to the One’s beatific aura should be enough for these ingrates.
Not "chocolate" enough?
So I guess we get to pay for mugabe to ride on his plane to LA, get some photo ops, get some more glowing praise from his media. Is he actually going to accomplish anything with this trip? Hell not, it’s all about his image.
It’s hard to sate the voracious appetites of the leeches who populate New Orleans.
Get up and clean up your city, people! I was in the Philippines when Mt. Pinatubo blew and the Filipino people cleaned up the ash and rebuilt their lives in a matter of six months. They didn’t stand around with that hollow look in their eyes wondering when someone was going to come and fix things for them.
The people of New Orleans should hang their head in shame.
There’s an old adage. It goes to show that everyone in life gets knocked down but only lazy bums stay down after the first knock.
For them, they never get it.
For me, charity turned to contempt as soon as I saw reports of those rescued cursing the rescuers for not getting there sooner.
Horsehockey! We're not mad, we're rebuilt and "Open For Business".
Oh there mad because he is making a whistle stop and other states are mad because he is not stopping by at all.
Silly me I thought it be the oppisite feeling.
Well yall need to read Kristens thread up yander about how the SF crowd feels about his visit.
Code Pinkettes and the Gays are livid and so much so that Obambi cancelled his public appearance.
Too bad we could seen a pie in his face.
Cant wait to hear Ann C chime in on that missed event.
Ann shows no mercy. : )
He’s probably just there to subsidize cable and satellite TV for those Katrina 52” LCD’s...
See post #10.
This Permanent Victim Status that New Orleans is bent on perpetuating is getting really, really old.
and I’m mad because the 0 never comes to Texas. /sarc
He doesn’t spend more than a few days in the White House,
no wonder things never get done.
don't hate them... that's what Tapeworms do... that's what they are. A bunch of parasites. A bunch of Amish parasites.
This smells like an ACORN visit. Isn’t NOLA the ACORN Hq.?
Is Aunt Jenny’s catfish restaurant in Ocean Springs open for business?
Best cat fish I ever et.
“O is trolling for votes.”
In the lower 9th? They wouldn’t vote against him in a million years...
Exactly.
I work in Mississippi often (headed back next week) and the folks in Mississippi are mighty proud that they didn’t bitch and moan about federal assistance. Louisiana could learn a lesson from their neighbor.
How come millions of these people got to the BO inauguration but couldn’t get out of New Orleans?
I wonder if even the people of NOLA are starting to miss the REAL President we used to have?
(Not that anyone would actually say that......)
The president really needs to take a look at Cameron Parish
Since when is the President responsible for every single thing in the country? Don’t local politicians have jobs just for this sort of thing?
Actually, the local head of ACORN was fired for saying something negative re: 0bama’s visit, lol.
The “Lower Ninth”.
If I never hear about that place again it will be too soon.
If I were Pres, I would purposely avoid places where whiners are constantly asking for more welfare payments and head to places where rugged individualists take care of themselves and tell the Federales to butt out of their lives.
It has been reopened for a loooong time now!
I bet New Orleans is going to ask when they can line up for “free Obama money” like Detroit did...
Let me tell you how I see it as a native New Orleanian and someone who lives in Jefferson parish.( Because of a family situation that- once resolved- will make me an EX Louisianian).
New Orleans- politiccally- is reaping what it sowed. It has worked hard to make itself thought of as the ‘party till you puke’ mecca, the world’s living outhouse. And so...that is how it is considered.
Who wants to keep rebuilding an outhouse for billions? You simply find another one to puke and party in.
Enter Katrina. Worldwide coverage of the city’s political- and especially- geographical un- tenableness. There WILL be other storms that will do worse. The place is old and decrepit in structures and infrastructure. It won’t take a Katrina to do massive damage in the future- just like it doesn’t take much to flatten a crippled 90 year old as opposed to a healthy 30
year old.
Still- the powers that be here EXPECT major business and investments to flock in! It’s stupid.
‘ Hey guys, lets take our Fortune 500 company and all our employees and move down to where ‘evacuation’ is the new name for vacation!’ Oh, yeah- they’re stampeding to do that!
Expecting the rest of the nation to CONTINUALLY keep fixing
what nature and politics destroys in N.O. is equally stupid- and useless. You don’t put good money into a losing
proposition. I wouldn’t- and I live here.
BOTTOM LINE- the Gulf of Mexico and it’s OIL and seafood can still be obtained without N.O. It will all be there long after the Gulf has swallowed S.E. Louisiana.
So here they sit with a conundrum. If they brag about what HAS been fixed and their grand plans for a future N.O., they can’t expect $$ from the Feds. If they show N.O. as over half of it still is- decimated- people rightfully get disgusted by the begging 4 YEARS later. Catch 22.
If there had been another hurricane this year the debate would be over. Even a minor one would have flooded some areas, and the PITIFUL 8inch wide government cement walls at the outfall canals( which were only repaired at the breaks, BTW, the rest remain as they have always been only more deteriorated) aren’t even trusted by the Corps to hold more than a few feet of water. Forget a 10-20 ft. storm surge) would NEVER hold up again for even a Cat 2 or 3.Add tp all this the fact that everything in the area is sinking more! Heavy rainstorms now flood some streets for the first time.
The rest of the nation knows all this- all the PR they can spin won’t change facts.
So here comes one more socialist Democrat and the incompetent local socialist Democrats expect him to make things all better( despite what national taxpayers feel about bailing out the N.O. Titanic in the middle of the ocean)?
Who knew politics could be so funny!?!
Let Hussein come and go. Means nothing to me. We’ll hardly notice the extra stink amid the local politicians and the mold and mildew.
And when the Obama "stash" doesn't have anything for them, I would expect even more bad behavior.
“.....hordes of bedraggled storm victims........”
How long are they gonna keep milking it?
Aunt Jennys has a delicious looking menu. I’m going to try it out the next time I’m over in those parts. I could stand a good round of their Shrimp Creole for lunch today! (although I admit I’d rather have Hush Puppies than biscuits with my catfish.)
FWIW
Heard in Sams Club, locally, this week. Black women talking about the Obama visit-—” He ain’t sent me no money. He ain’t my n@$$a.”
The truth is Obama doesn’t give s*** about ‘nawlins. Not one.
He is stopping there ‘cause Rahm told him to stop there.
His whole presidency is a big traveling snake oil show.
holy crap, you mean you were SELF-RELIANT?
We’ll have none of that in ObamaLand.
N.O. will never get another tourist dime from me. My distributor has a convention there yearly and I refuse to attend.
The less of his agenda that gets implemented, the better.
Only 830 miles from my house. Almost worth the trip.
A little attention to Galveston, please. New Orleans brought much of its misery on itself and won’t stop whining no matter what people do. And people have done a lot.
Many of the people in New Orleans would steal your chain saw and pawn it. I know, I used to live and work there.
100, 523+ AF-1 Miles To Date ...
Your comment is dead on.....I’ve seen over the past 4 years all the progress that’s been made by those folks over there and it’s amazing....Are there still areas that need help? Of course, the whole coastal area between Bayou La Batre, AL and the MS/LA line was almost destroyed. Keelser AFB alone sustained close to $lB in damage but those folks never stayed on TV with their hands out begging for money. So many people seem to think Katrina hit NOLA - it didn’t - it came ashore in MS.....but the media fixated on NOLA and ignored the damages and death in MS and AL....typical MSM...
I’m in Jefferson Parish as well, and I couldn’t agree more.
Bush is from Texas. That’ll keep Ø out of that state forever, or at least until 2012.
BTW, where is the federal $$$$$$ for the California fires? Or the floods in Georgia? Or any of the other disasters that have occurred since this disaster hit Washington? Where? Where? Where?
Well you see, the evil Goerge W Bush turned on his weather machine and the eviler Dick Cheney guided it directly to the black folks of new orleans. They spared the whites in Mississippi and Alabama. THEN they snuck in to the city and blew up the levies to flood the city. Their ultimate intention was to dilute the black voting block in new orleans and spread death and destruction in a 12 square block area.
HI Bama-
I evaced to northern Mobile county for Katrina. As you know we were hit hard there on the ‘bad’ side of the storm; and what I saw afterward amazed me.
ALL the locals came out and cleared their own roads. Travel was possible hours after Katrina passed. They had the
gumption and the equipment to do this.
MOST residents of N.O. have neither.
The dirt poor( a huge majority here) have no pride, expect everything done for them and spend all their money on drugs, big screen tv’s or hairdos and nails. They wouldn’t know what to do with a chainsaw if they wanted to spend money on them- which they don’t. Also there are NO responsible menfolk among the lower classes here. Our lower class is lower than any other in the country. They do as they have been culturally raised to do- Wait for others to provide what they need.
The well-off here sure as He$$ aren’t going to go out and break a sweat cleaning their own streets much less those of poorer areas. That’s what do-gooders from out of town are for. The wealthy here tried to HIRE people to fix up their general surroundings but were horrified at the lack of working class available after the storm.
Local message boards here- for the more affluent neighborhoods- were full of moaning that their gardeners or maids could not be found when the weather cleared! They had to SHARE help!!!
So you can’t compare N.O. to the Gulf coast when it comes to self-reliance. It’s an accepted ethic there. It never was- and never will be- here. Because of the class of the population. And that’s that.
You summed that up perfectly...LOL
