It was the last way John Bernard would have wanted his voice to gain prominence in the national debate over the war in Afghanistan. The retired Marine had been writing to lawmakers for weeks complaining of the new rules of engagement he believed put U.S. troops at unacceptable risk in the insurgency-wracked country. He got little response.
Then Bernard's only son, 21-year-old Lance Cpl. Joshua Bernard a Marine like his dad was killed in an insurgent ambush in Afghanistan's volatile Helmand province, the latest victim of a surge in U.S. combat deaths.

Honor the fallen...
Marine Lance Cpl. Joshua M. Bernard
3rd Marine Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force, based at Marine Corps Base Hawaii, Kaneohe Bay; died Aug. 14 while supporting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan.
2/3 Marine dies in Afghanistan
Staff report
OCEANSIDE, Calif. Defense Department officials Aug. 17 identified a Marine killed Aug. 14 in Afghanistan as Lance Cpl. Joshua M. Bernard.
Bernard, 21, a rifleman from New Portland, Maine, died while he was supporting operations in Helmand province, military officials said.
The combat deployment was the second for Bernard, who enlisted in November 2006 and joined Hawaii-based 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marines, in May 2007 and deployed with the battalion to Iraq in 2008, Marine Corps Base-Hawaii officials said in a news release. The battalion is operating as part of the 2nd Marine Expeditionary Brigade in Afghanistan.
Bernard had received the Purple Heart, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and a Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, officials said.

Does anybody know if that pic would have had to get clearance through the Pentagon in order to be published? For the life of me, I can’t figure out how that type of pic didn’t come out (wasn’t allowed???) under the previous Administration but suddenly was leaked under this one.
Ping.
It’s the ROEs Stupid fits.

...I recognize that the carefully controlled and disciplined employment of force entails risks to our troops...
...The Taliban cannot militarily defeat us - but we can defeat ourselves...
This is all that comes to my mind when I read that:
We are pinned down. We are running low on ammo. We have no air. Weve lost today, Marine Maj. Kevin Williams, 37, said through his translator to his Afghan counterpart, responding to the latters repeated demands for helicopters.
Were pinned down: 4 U.S. Marines die in Afghan ambush

If your going to keep them over there Obama&Co.. NOW, can we PLEASE have some Troop-centered and protecting ROEs! And give them the equipment and manpower they need to back them up!

The solution isn't that complicated, Bernard said. He wants the U.S. military to return to its original mission of chasing and killing the Taliban and al-Qaida. Otherwise, he said, bring the troops home.
It's so simple a 5th grader, even a Nobel Peace Prize winner, should be able to get it.
RIP Major Williams, 9/09/2009
I am so sorry for all of the warriors who have fallen and for their gold star families. I believe I am correct in stating that more than 320 of our best have fallen on Kamerad Zer0's watch.

U
Thank you very much for you sacrifice and service!
Agreed. Tell your son thanks for his service and I wish him the best.
Thank you, ticked.
When I consider how my light is spent
Ere half my days in this dark world and wide,
And that one talent which is death to hide
Lodg'd with me useless, though my soul more bent
To serve therewith my Maker, and present
My true account, lest he returning chide,
"Doth God exact day-labour, light denied?"
I fondly ask. But Patience, to prevent
That murmur, soon replies: "God doth not need
Either man's work or his own gifts: who best
Bear his mild yoke, they serve him best. His state
Is kingly; thousands at his bidding speed
And post o'er land and ocean without rest:
They also serve who only stand and wait."
I’m honored to have him speak up. If more American’s served like this father does we wouldn’t have leaders who have failed our troops such as those we have now. Our families prayers are with him and we are grateful to him.
A Warriors Blessing
May your sword be ever sharp and your arm remain strong.
May your eyes be keen and your arrows flight true.
May your lance never break and your body endure.
May your knife be ever at hand in need and your mind always vigilant and alert as to your enemys intent.
And I pray that God would watch over you and keep you, so that you may return home safely and in valor, to enjoy that which you have fought to defend.
And there living out your life in peace and prosperity until the end of your days.

156 U.S. Soldiers, Sailors , Marines, and Airmen have been killed in Afghanistan since the announcement of the new rules of engagement on July 2 . If this keeps up at this rate in about two weeks will have had more of our servicemen die this year in Afghanistan as we have lost in the first 5 years fighting this war.
Pray for our troops .
Rest in Peace
