Assemblywoman Dede Scozzafava is not your typical Republican candidate. Running in a special election in upstate New York for the seat of departing Congressman John McHugh, she has, naturally, picked up the support of state and national Republican party officials. She has secured the full support of the National Republican Congressional Committee and that of its chairman, Texas Rep. Pete Sessions.
But, she has also picked up the support of the DailyKos, not a traditionally deep well of support for Republicans. Oh, and ACORNs Working Families Party. Below is a memo Big Government obtained circulating among leaders of the conservative movement. It is from New York State Conservative Party Chair, Mike Long:
Donors to the Republican National Congressional Committee have a right to expect their support will help candidates who are broadly in accord with the Republican Partys fundamental principles.
There is little doubt, in these lean times, Americans who make contributions to the NRCC would be shocked to learn their dollars are actually supporting the campaign of an unrepentant liberal who opposes the central achievements of todays Republican Congressional delegation.
Yet that is exactly to sad a state of affairs we now confront. The NRCC is using the contributions of loyal Republicans across the country to fund the Congressional bid of Liberal New York State Assemblywoman Dede Scozzafava.
Assemblywoman Scozzafava supports the Obama tax-and-spend Stimulus Package - the same package the Republicans now in Congress unanimously rejected. She defends the kind of earmarked pork-barrel spending that cost Republicans so much credibility in the last election. She supports Big Labors card check attack on the secret ballot. And she twice voted to legalize gay marriage.
Assemblywoman Scozzafava wasnt picked by the voters. Party bosses selected her, reportedly with the guidance and direction of the NRCC.
So, what is at stake here is more than the risk of electing yet another Arlen Specter-style liberal Republican. This is a battle about the soul and future of the Republican Party.
Some think the way to win elections is to mimic the Democrats, to offer the voters liberal-lite in hopes of finding accommodation with the Democrats and success at the polls.
The NRCCs support for liberal Assemblywoman Scozzafava is a disturbing indication that the NRCC is test marketing a campaign message blurring the differences between the parties instead of principled opposition to the liberal Democrats agenda.
The me-to approach is both sure to fail politically and deeply dishonest to the NRCCs core financial supporters. The donors who sacrifice to write checks to the NRCC dont expect their efforts to be diverted to liberals like Assemblywoman Scozzafava.
Accordingly, while we are all friends of the NRCC, we reluctantly call for a moratorium on any financial contributions to the NRCC until that organization ceases support for Assemblywoman Scozzafava and clarifies its plans for candidate recruitment and support going forward.
There are great opportunities ahead for the Republicans in Congress. Those opportunities cannot be squandered by political miscalculations and a lack of faith in the central values of the Republican Party.
Sincerely,
Mike Long
Chairman, New York State Conservative Party
It isnt mentioned in the memo, but Scozzafava has run for the state Assembly repeatedly with the endorsement of ACORNs Working Families Party. The WFP was formed for the express purpose of pushing the Democratic party to the left. The principle-bending gymnastics involved for a Republican to seek out their endorsement are positively mind-boggling.
Count us as big believers in the big tent theory of political parties. No matter how large you want to build your tent, though, it still has to be built on a solid foundation. Youd think Republicans could agree that ACORNs Working Families partybased on what we know right nowwouldnt have a place there.
Those of you who think a GOP return to the majority in 2010 will right what ails us should keep this in mind.
Great job! Keep up the good work!
FReep mail me if you want on/off the list.
A Republican: ACORN endorsed.
Are you now trying to equate Republicans' involvement in ACORN with Dems?
You've gone round the bend. (In American lingo, you're NUTS).
Don't ping me to anything else, dweeb. You can't win the argument no matter how much you cheat.
the left took over the democrat party. why can’t they take over the republican party?
Soooo, those pink slips are for a good reason?
They actively campaigned for Barack Obama and broke laws for Democrats in 14 states.
They gave Obama money - he was their lawyer - they have harrassed Republicans and broken into campaign headquarters (several in Ohio). ACORN is a wing of the far left faction of the Dem party.
You can cheat all you want in this argument, but you can't make the two parties equal in corruption because THEY ARE NOT.
Now I will ask you politely this time. Please don't ping me again. Please don't post to me again.
You don't have a serious argument, and no matter how hard you distort, you cannot win. I will only argue with pretzels for so long. And I'm done trying to reason with your twisted thought process.
For the third and last time today, GOOD BYE.
The merge started happening a long time ago.
I would place more faith in the Cosa Nostra to guarantee my freedoms than the GoP.
This morning I was delighted to receive a call from the National Republican Committee, and I threw this situation right back at the gentleman who claimed the NRC was conservative. He then had the gall to tell me that the Republicans were the ones spearheading the Tea Party movement. I was happy to inform him otherwise. I refuse to let the NRC high-jack what grassroot conservativesd have done entirely on their own.
Last week, I received junk mail from the RNC and John McCains PAC asking me for money. I used their return envelopes and replied back to them with this message:
My Money is going to buy Palins book.
Why in the world would the Republican party support this obvious democrat/socialist?
The Democrat party is not only the home of ACORN, but it is the home of Code Pink, EcoTerrorism, Union thugs, Homosexual, Transexual organizations, advocacy of sexual perversion as a "civil right," mass murder by abortion, infanticide, indocrtination of school children, control of higher education by propaganda and hatred of America, Communism, destruction of capitalism, racism, hatred of our military, attempts to defund our military while at war, love affairs with dictators, attempts to find "moderate" terrorists, mocking the war against Islamofascists, destruction of the poor through the welfare state, enslaving the poor through the welfare state, shredding, ignoring and lying about the Constitution, theft from "the rich"...........and the list goes on.
ANYONE who says there is NO difference in the two parties is either ignorant or dishonest, or both.
The Republican party needs serious reform. It needs a hard shove to move it right. But the claim that it is the same as the Democrat party is a lie.
The Republican party has been wayward, and any organization with people has corruption, greed and lust for power. Weed out the bad, nurture the good, "help" the weak by making phone calls, e-mailing, denying funds, telling the telemarketers WHY you aren't giving.... There are lots of ways to work at moving the Republican party towards conservatism.
Lying and saying there is no difference between them and the Dems, and starting a third party will guarantee the complete control of the party of anti-Americanism and hate. I don't think that's what any conservative on this board wants. Is it?
Why the pretense of pretending to have a 2 party system?
We are on thin ice as a nation and the GoP is seriously in need of more Hans Brinkers,,, not Dumbos.
What’s a single-party ideology like Obama’s Marxism to do in a two-party system? Populate both parties as much as possible, of course. A third party would be a disastrous response, however. The imperative is to strongly fill and operate the Republican Party with small-government conservatism.
What, are you a Democrat Party plant here or something?
Have you been beating the 3rd party drum for those four years? (Some of the Democrat plants are pretty persistent and even somewhat camouflaged!)
