Michael Long, chairman of the Conservative Party of New York, is urging fellow conservatives not to contribute to the National Republican Congressional Committee.
His complaint: The NRCC is supporting the Republican candidate in New Yorks 23rd Congressional District, who he says is out of step with GOP values.
The Republicans have nominated centrist State Assemblywoman Dede Scozzafava as their candidate in the special election to be held on Nov. 3. In response, the Conservative Party nominated its own candidate, local accountant Doug Hoffman. Hoffman has been getting some traction, winning endorsements from several conservative groups and garnering 16% support in a recent poll. That has Republicans worried he will siphon support from Scozzafava and let Democrat Bill Owens pull off a victory.
Long sent a strongly worded memo to conservative leaders and groups urging them to withhold support from the NRCC, the campaign arm of House Republicans, until it stops spending money to support Scozzafava. Its not clear how much impact Longs missive will have, but it highlights in striking fashion the debate within the Republican Party over whether to recruit moderate candidates in swing districts or put a renewed emphasis on conservative principles.

You are mistaken. Your enemy is expanded government liberal-socialism, not the limited government conservatism that the Republican party needs to stand for.
Party affiliation is moot. Failure to comprehend that detail sabotages the future of the Republican party. Rejecting big-government Republicans at every turn is about the only hope we have of ensuring the GOP's future success.
What values, the GOP has no values, just a desire to spend as much as the democraps. And to be liked by the media.
Where is the 5th located?
“is urging fellow conservatives not to contribute to the National Republican Congressional Committee.”
He’s a little late to the party, isn’t he? I quit giving to those useless bast#rds years ago.
Fifth District
Main article: Oregon’s 5th congressional district
District 5 stretches from the central coast through the state capital into southern suburbs of Portland and part of the summit of Mount Hood. It includes Lincoln County, Marion County, Polk County, Tillamook County, part of Benton County and the southern part of Clackamas County.
The district is represented by Democrat Kurt Schrader, following Darlene Hooley’s retirement in 2009.
Thank-you for the link. I put a 10-spot on it.
I was just curious because my sister heads the rep women’s group in Medford.
NY Democrats are social liberals and economic liberals. NY Republicans are economic conservatives and social liberals. But they are all still liberals, and it shows.
I’ll worry about Republicans who have strayed too far AFTER I ensure that the Democrat is defeated.
Only when Republicans have a majority again can the party be pulled back to the right. I’m far more concerned in defeating the scumbag Al Franken and Barbara Boxer’s of the world than in engaging in self-destructive circular firing squads among my friends and allies.
