GOP Lawmakers Reach Out to Isolated Honduran Government
The Washington Post ^ | October 10, 2009 | Mary Beth Sheridan

In the three months since soldiers expelled Honduras's leftist president, the Obama administration and the rest of the world have shunned the Central American country, cutting off aid and travel visas. But the isolated Honduran leadership has found one lifeline: Republicans on Capitol Hill.

Within days of President Manuel Zelaya's ouster June 28, powerful Hondurans launched a lobbying campaign in Washington, arguing that the leftist leader had been a menace to their country. The Honduran government and its allies have spent at least half a million dollars on public-relations experts and lobbyists from both parties -- including Lanny Davis, a lawyer who worked in President Bill Clinton's White House.

Although the Hondurans haven't succeeded in reversing U.S. policy, their arguments have found favor with some Republicans. GOP lawmakers have blocked two of Obama's key nominations for Latin America, weakening his diplomatic team. In the past week, two Republican delegations have traveled to Honduras to meet with the de facto government, which is not recognized internationally.

Those actions have complicated the strategy of the Obama administration, which has been seeking to impress a growing crop of leftist Latin American leaders with its pro-democracy credentials.

I’m waiting for Obama and the state run media to be screaming about interference in foreign policy.

I have spoke to my relatives in the National Congress and pro-Zelaya supporters are causing riots hoping for a confrontation with the police. These people hope that the police will take extreme measures to cause sympathy for Zelaya.Zelaya is also using people from other countries to pose as Pro Zelaya Hondurans and he is paying them

Pro-democracy credentials????? What pro-democracy credentials would be established by forcing the reinstatement of a would be dictator? These people are either monumentally stupid of just downright evil there is no other choice.

Oh they’ve been yelling that from the beginning. Sen Kerry denied funding for a Congressional inspection team to go down there. He tried to ground Sen Demint, but Pentagon loaned them a jet.

Kerry is a real tool. Yes, the same guy who as an active duty Naval officer met with VietCong in Paris while we were still at war with them!

Typical “community organizing”, use the stupid masses by stirring them up with hate propaganda, and a message of entitlement to cause confusion and fear in an attempt to get your way. You would think that intelligent people everywhere, by now, would be on to such obvious tactics and learn to ignore them.

Once again Republicans set themselves apart from the demorats. Somebody alert Glen Beck and let him know that, once again, both are far from the same!

I am sorry. I got all the news from my relatives several hours ago who are government officials. And they are in the heart of the mess.
