“...which gets shown more than some new releases...”
Really? I just finally saw this movie a couple of years ago, I know it is a famous movie (Audrey Hepburn, little black dress, instant icon!) but I had never seen it even being on TV before, or at a free screening, or at a paid screening, and hey, I lived in NYC for the first 30 years of my life.
Now, there are some serious problems with this movie and how it deviates from the book, but of course with the movie you get a happy ending, which I don’t think you get with the book.
The book I read once and a long time ago, and I don’t really remember the ending, but I do remember crying when it was over, crying BECAUSE it was over. It was really one of the most fantastic reading experiences of my life. Capote could really write.
I may have to read it again. I may have to watch the movie again, as I don’t remember the oriental character at all.
Nah. Wish I’da thought of those lyrics first.
Those Hong Kong films really have some of the worst stereotypes of white people. I’ve never seen so many evil, white missionaries.
Umm, does this person know the ‘me love you long time’ bit comes from a song by a black group? I can’t remember their name, but they were horrible and quite filthy.
You know someone else, who knows more of the lyrics is gonna ping us both and make milk shoot our our noses, don’t you?
Racist is today’s movie portrayals of White Businessman, Southern Sherrif, White Military Vet..
2 Live Crew sampled said soundbite from the movie “Full Metal Jacket.”
Ask, and it shall be given unto you:
You say that we’ve got nothing in common
No common ground to start from
And we’re falling apart
You’ll say the world has come between us
Our lives have come between us
But I know you just don’t care
CHORUS:
And I said what about “Breakfast at Tiffany’s?
She said, “I think I remember the film,
And as I recall, I think, we both kinda liked it.”
And I said, “Well, that’s the one thing we’ve got.”
I see you - the only one who knew me
And now your eyes see through me
I guess I was wrong
So what now? It’s plain to see we’re over,
And I hate when things are over -
When so much is left undone
CHORUS:
And I said what about “Breakfast at Tiffany’s?
She said, “I think I remember the film,
And as I recall, I think, we both kinda liked it.”
And I said, “Well, that’s the one thing we’ve got.”
You say that we’ve got nothing in common
No common ground to start from
And we’re falling apart
You’ll say the world has come between us
Our lives have come between us
But I know you just don’t care
CHORUS:
And I said what about “Breakfast at Tiffany’s?
She said, “I think I remember the film,
And as I recall, I think, we both kinda liked it.”
And I said, “Well, that’s the one thing we’ve got.”
The British would never stereotype racial groups. Hundreds of years of conquering and colonizing provided an intimate picture of those too ignorant to exploit their own mineral resources and agricultural wealth.
I don’t believe that racial stereotypes are necessarily racist. We make fun of hillbillies all the time, but it’s not racist. Racism is a belief that some are superior to others or deserving of better treatment because of their race. But humor is simply humor.
I don’t recall hearing any racist cries about the recent Movie Grand Torino. I think that crowd knows Clint Eastwood would tell them to stick it where the sun don’t shine.
paulycy should not be posting pictures of my mother. LOL!!!!
All kidding aside, my mother was a model in the late ‘50s and there are several photos I have seen of her where you can barely tell if the photo is of her or of Audrey Hepburn.
While I do not like to speak ill of the dead, most especially my own mother, looks aside, she more closely resembled Katherine Hepburn than Audrey Hepburn. Physically my mother was a beautiful woman, alas other than height, weight, and temper, I do not resemble her at all.
agreed.
I read the novella and probably (maybe) saw snatches of the movie on television. Mr. Yunioshi wasn’t portrayed in a racist manner in the novella.
My wife liked Katherine Hepburn a lot as an actress so we have a few biographies of hers around. What a character!
I’m so proud to say that my wife was a spitting image of her at that same age.......and at 62, she’s still stunning.
:0)
Chris Rock and Oprah are racist.
Did we ever figure out what Holly Golightly did for a living in this movie ?
