What does any of this have to do with the NRA?

From the looks of it, NRA blessed a provision that is being used in Oregon to deprive disabled veterans of their right to bear arms, sometimes on the sly. They had previously pooh-poohed the idea that it could be thus abused.

One would think that disabled people are in the MOST need of firearms to protect themselves!

I presume that the NRA will now get on the case.

It’s certainly a D’OH! moment. One hopes they will not be as insouciant in the future.

Most of the alarming posts on this bulletin board are posts from YOU. Do you have any examples of Veteran's losing their 2nd amendment rights? This doesn't at all sound like something the NRA would support. We need more info before we get all bent out of shape.

I am a disabled vet. who has lost my firearm rights! I received a head injury in Nov.5 1997 and as a result my wife had to become my care giver because of my seizures & meds to control them. So under the “Brady gun control” act. I am no longer allowed to own nor have in my control any fire arm or ammo. This ruling has no review nor any appeal!

It is bad enough that I can no longer allowed to drive [the state of Mi. took my lisc.]but I really enjoy shooting small game & varmints! I usually used a .22 to hunt with, & was using that to teach my daughter to shoot with that too.

“Portland Regional Office is sending notice to local Disabled Veterans threatening to use The Brady Bill to take away 2nd Amendment Rights.”

Who the hell is the Portland Regional Office? Are they federal or state or some left wing pig faced fascist Nazi group from ACORN?

These bill have been dormant for months. Good to watch, but there are bad bills introduced in every session that die in session.

nra supported it. the law provides for an appeal process if a vet is declared incompetent. many say that the appeal process has no funding and there are no appeals. nra accepted the law with this provision, and they’ve complained repeatedly about the appeals process.

bear in mind that the original brady bill was much worse than what was passed. they wanted to keep transaction records and do some other stuff. the bill is a lesser evil. no, the nra is not perfect. it was run by moses, not jesus. but it remains the most effective tool we have, and it does respond to criticism from shooters. sometimes the response is, ‘this is the best we could get,’ and some people take issue with that.

What is being discussed in that thread is the actions of the Portland Regional Office of the Veteran’s Administration. The reason the NRA is being “called” on it is because they worked with Senator Schumer and Congresswoman Carolyn McCarthy to push the NICS Improvement Act through congress. At the time it was being debated several people on this forum and elsewhere predicted this sort of thing, yet the NRA, in its infinite wisdom, assured us that such things would never happen. Well, guess what... it has happened and he NRA has a sizeable share of the responsibility!

As to being an alarmist... I think this is the third thread I’ve started on this forum. If that’s enough to identify me as an alarmist then so be it.

Ignore the law, have a friend buy your guns and ammo for you. Their comes a point when you have to just say I’m no longer playing these socialists games, screw the laws I’m going to do what is right to protect myself and family. I reached that point about 20 years ago, as far as the government knows, I don’t own as much as a single shot .22 (wink)

How about “none of the above” for a choice between two bad bills?
