Kerry, GOP senator tussle over Honduran trip (DeMint)
Boston Globe ^ | October 3, 2009 | Farah Stockman

While some Republicans saw the move as a disturbing use of power by Kerry, who became chairman of the influential committee earlier this year, several Democratic aides described the move as an attempt to rein in one of the Senate’s most obstructive members. DeMint has irked many in Congress over the years, including members of his own party, for blocking legislation, including a massive 2006 omnibus spending bill that he felt had too many earmarks.

In recent months, DeMint, whom some have likened to the late conservative icon Jesse Helms, has been a particular thorn in the side of Democrats. In June, he published a book called “Saving Freedom: We Can Stop America’s Slide into Socialism,’’ which attacked President Obama’s federal spending.

In July, he told a conference call of fellow conservatives: “If we’re able to stop Obama on [health care], it will be his Waterloo. It will break him.’’ The same month, he compared the United States under Obama to Nazi Germany, telling an audience at the National Press Club: “We’re about where Germany was before World War II where they became a social democracy. You still had votes but the votes were just power grabs like you see in Iran, and other places in South America, like [Hugo] Chávez is running down in Venezuela.’’

In July, DeMint was among the handful of senators on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee who voted against Arturo Valenzuela, Obama’s nominee for assistant secretary of state for Western Hemisphere affairs, and Tom Shannon, the assistant secretary and nominee to be ambassador to Brazil.

Of course, one always has to use a "Leftese-English" translator when reading most of the MSM; i.e.. "most obstructive members" = principled conservative who refuses to roll over.

It looks like the MSM and liberals are nervous about Demint. The slander has started already, they don't want him to gain any footing.

Kerry's staff must see DeMint as an obsticle. Good to know the Boston Globe is on top of this.

Gee, didn’t Pelosi travel to Syria without permission??? She set the precedent. Unless, we also want to count Kerry’s trip to N. Vietnam...but that’s just me.

Now that Teddy Boy is six feet under, the leftist media will tag Horseface as the new conscience of the Senate.

DeMint is the only other politician I’d vote for President. Palin is top on my list.

Congress needs a bunch more DeMints. Moderate Republicans and Blue Dog Dems are part of the equation. The Progressive Caucus should be sent packing, IMO.

The more I get to know him, the more I’m impressed with DeMint.

From my prospective, one often thinks of "conscience" as something housed in the brain.

When I think of "Horseface", I actually think of the other end of any common horse. You got it!

“Jones said that Kerry has tried to work with DeMint to give him the debate that he is asking for, but that DeMint has refused.”

Uh.......sure he did.....no problem......LOL!

Kerry eats “Liars Oats” for breakfast.

IOWs Jim DeMint has actually stood up to the communists, looters and other assorted crap-weasels in Congress and they don't like it.

John Kerry is a traitor. Everyone who has voted for him is an un-American slob.
