If Obama gets 2016 Games, Daley will be king, not mayor (he already is)

The president of the United States shouldn't have to fly halfway around the world to humble himself before a posse of international sports influence peddlers and beg for a track meet.

But that's exactly what he is doing.

By going to Denmark with all the other City Hall politicos, including those from the White House, President Barack Obama is doing more than asking the International Olympic Committee to allow Chicago to host the 2016 Games.

He's asking the IOC to make Mayor Richard Daley the king of Chicago for life.

If Chicago gets the games, it will be Obama who will get the credit, for making sure that Daley, with all that Olympic gold to spend, will remain the undisputed political boss forevermore.

That's reform the Obama Way.

"I don't want to get into a political game," Chicago 2016 Chairman Patrick Ryan told reporters in Copenhagen, as contingents from Chicago, Rio, Madrid and Tokyo politicked for the right to host the Olympic festival. "This race is about sports and competition. This should not be about a competition between heads of state. It's all about the athletes and Paralympians.

"President Obama is coming here out of respect for the athletes and the bid," ....

Oh, really?

Ryan may be many things, but dumb isn't one of them. He's a realist, worth a gazillion dollars. His former archrival, Near North Insurance boss Mickey Segal, is a broken man, sitting in federal prison, probably going stir-crazy. Someday, Ryan will end up owning the Chicago Bears. Yet he talks in terms of sport and competition.

If you think Chicago's Olympic push is about sports, you're mistaken. Sports has nothing to do with this. It's like in the old movie, with Michael Corleone telling truths to his future wife, saying, "Now who's being naive, Kay?"

Obama to participate in Q & A with IOC members

COPENHAGEN -- It's going to be a bit of show and tell for President Barack Obama during Friday's final presentation to the International Olympic Committee.

Not only will the President speak on behalf of Chicago's bid, he will take questions from International Olympic Committee members during the 15-minute question period after the 45-minute prepared presentation.

He also will ``absolutely'' try to meet with individual IOC members after that, according to Presidential advisor Valerie Jarrett.

``He and the First Lady will both participate in the question and answer session,'' Jarrett said in a Wednesday interview with the Tribune and four other media outlets - one from Italy, one from Japan, one from Great Britain and another from the United States.

``He will stay and meet with the IOC as long as they will let him. They decide the time constraints. He is prepared to stay and visit as long as they have questions for him.''

I knew that Valerie Jarrett was the puppet master who was a slum lord along with Rezco. What I didn’t put together was the use of her property to build the Olympics. I wish Rio well, but the REALITY is that Chicago will get the games. It will be like what happened with the rewarding of the Atlanta games for 96, Athens put up a good effort but they got denied. It will happen to Rio also. I have a gut feeling that Chicago will get the games. Overall for myself I have very mixed feelings about all this. It is in the bag for Chicago.

First we send Michelle, and now we send Oprah. By treating these celebrity filth as dignitaries and allowing them to represent the United States, we are making fools of ourselves more than ever. This has to be the first administration that is so accessible by celebrities rather than ordinary people.

I remember reading about a Chinese politician who visited a family one evening. He made dinner, made a loan, and then left money for them. Now how many of our congresscritters do that?

As long as we keep celebrities on a pedestal this country is going to continue to fall and we deserve it. Even Clintoon wouldn’t have sent Oprah along with Hillary to make an Olympic bid.
