Buju Banton sings about shooting gays in the head and setting them on fire
A promoter for a Jamaican reggae star who sings about shooting gays in the head and setting them on fire finds it hard to understand why some gay groups are protesting the singers upcoming Miami concert.
Andrew Minott of Global Vybz Entertainment says that Buju Banton hasnt even sung the song Boom Bye Bye in years, so homosexuals should not be complaining, according to The Miami Herald.
However, a Youtube video reveals that Buju Banton sang it during a Miami concert in 2006.
Still, Minott claims that these lyrics are just part of dance hall culture and are not meant to be taken literally.
However, in 2004, Buju Banton was charged with allegedly beating six men believed to be gay after forcing entry into a house in Kingston. One of the victims lost an eye in the attack.
Charges were dropped against Buju Banton in 2006 for lack of evidence.
Then in 2007, it was believed that he signed the Reggae Compassionate Act, in which he pledged to stop singing hate songs against gays.
But then he later denied signing the statement, even though it was signed by a Mark Myrie, which is his legal name.
So now several gay groups are protesting his scheduled Halloween concert at the James L. Knight Center, which is owned by the City of Miami.
The groups believe he should not be allowed to perform in a city-owned venue. However, city officials say it is Buju Bantons First Amendment right to perform at the venue, just as the Cuban band Los Van Van was allowed to perform in the Miami Arena in 1999 amidst protests from the right-wing Cuban community.
isn't that all part of being diverse?
everyone doing whatever makes them feel good, with impunity?
Yes but i think your rights to do what you choose begin to infringe on others’ rights at some point before “breaking into their home and beating them”. Not a constitutional scholar, but pretty sure that’s correct.
in obummer’s world, your rights are whatever you can get away with
This situation is just another illustration as to why governments should not own entertainment venues.
but he’s just singing about it he’s not actually doing it. Oh man libs heads are going to start exploding he’s homophobic but at the same time he’s Jamaican ... oh noes!
Buju Banton
As long as they sing about tearing apart the privates of their ho’s, that’s fine...but now that gays are in the cross-hairs...it’s news.
RACISTS!!!!!
I thought that usually they have to pay extra for that...
Just call it a spliff-lighting ceremony, and libs will love it.
Why would you set them on fire after you shoot them in head? I would think the opposite would make more sense. Not that I’m advocating anyone being shot OR set on fire regardless of order.
Thats no way to stay out of jail
And ammo is to expensive.
Clearly he is stupid then. First of all I would not even use those lyrics on a liberal.
So true. What a wonderful group of people. Not
All this PC is so confusing.
“Still, Minott claims that these lyrics are just part of dance hall culture and are not meant to be taken literally.”
Shouldn’t these folks in Miami be embracing diversity?? It’s a culture thing. Fall down and worship that. Celebrate it.
no, you didn’t read the article. He actually did it.
