Open the books (ACORN, Citizens Consulting, Inc.)

Andrew Breitbart, James O'Keefe and Hannah Giles probably aren't too upset that the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN) filed a lawsuit against them. It would make great fodder for more videos exposing ACORN's troubled ways.

ACORN is suing Mr. O'Keefe and Ms. Giles for secretly videotaping its employees giving advice on how to obtain federal funds to run a brothel, and Mr. Breitbart for posting the videos on his Web site.

After hearing news of the lawsuit claiming Maryland wiretapping laws were violated, legal specialists scratched their heads. By filing the lawsuit, ACORN has given the defendants the right to force ACORN to disclose a broad range of information related to the lawsuit through a process called discovery.

Fox News host Greta Van Susteren, a former prosecutor, wrote on her blog Greta Wire that whoever decided ACORN should sue was an "idiot."

"They are going to get hit with interrogations, requests for production of documents, depositions, etc.," she wrote. "And who will get deposed? Just about everybody! And if that discovery produces evidence of a crime? You can be sure that evidence would be fed ex'ed to the Justice Department!"

ACORN's attorneys are seeking $500,000 in damages for two employees shown in the videos, who have since been fired, as well as $1 million for ACORN.

A day after ACORN filed its lawsuit, the Treasury Department announced that it would grant a request by Sen. Susan Collins, Maine Republican, and Rep. Darrell Issa, California Republican, to investigate whether ACORN had illegally used federal funds for political purposes.

The Republicans specifically asked Treasury to look into Citizens Consulting Inc., which manages ACORN's finances.

If a citizen suspects a dirty cop, catches him in the act on video, and makes it public, would the citizen be sued for while acting as a whistle-blower?

What's the point of whistle-blower protection laws if the whistle-blower is somehow in violation of the law?

Was ACORN acting as an agent of the government as it takes our money to run offices (are they public?) that offer advice about our government - in this case - about taxes, immigration, 'small business assistance', and housing? How else would the 5 ACORN offices have been exposed?

Yet, the government can use traffic-stop cameras, speeding cameras, red-light cameras, surveillance cameras, etc., to prosecute us, but if an agent of the government (ACORN) is acting contrary to the best interests of all of us, the whistle-blower is sued.

Sen Charlse Grassley just released documents that show leaders of ACORN community transferred several million dollars in charitable and government money meant for the poor to parts of the group that have political and sometimes profit-making missions.

Sen Grassley's documents indicate that ACORN's tax-exempt groups----along with its tangled web of allied organizations---- used more than half their charitable and public money in 2006 to pay other ACORN affiliates.

The latter is The BIGGEST N/P fraud --- a N/P writing checks to another N/P. That's how the "altruistic" siphon off money for other uses, tax-free. Bad enough they launder their own money----in ACORN'S case, this was OUR money.

Betcha some of the ACORNs caught on tape even have "college degrees." How they got them is anybody's guess but "affirmative action" comes to mind.

It's time to push the reset button WRT to the causes of poverty and what "the gov't" should do about it.

ACORN's Illegal Activities and Mafia-Style Tactics in Congress’s Spotlight

Members of Congress heard testimony against the activist group ACORN on Thursday, exposing the group's illegal activity and mafia-style tactics. Pittsburgh lawyer Heather Heidelbaugh appeared before the a House Judiciary subcommittee alleging that the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN) has violated campaign finance and tax laws in addition to their protest-for-hire and coerced donations.

The source of the accusations was from the sworn testimony of ACORN whistleblower Anita MonCrief, who was a clerk for ACORN's sister organization called Project Vote.

MonCrief, a Democrat and Obama supporter, testified last year that Barack Obama's campaign gave Project Vote a "donor list" of people who had contributed the maximum amount allowed by federal law. According to Heidelbaugh's testimony, the donors were to be targeted to donate to ACORN's "Get Out the Vote" efforts and finance voter registration drives.

Heidelbaugh revealed in her testimony that there is virtually no separation between ACORN and Project Vote, as employees working for one group would perform work for the other. (Excerpt) Read more at familysecuritymatters.org ...

REFERENCE Since 1989, at least $53 million federal tax dollars went to ACORN and its branches. Congress is moving to cutoff funding after the video sting (but tax dollars continue to roll into ACORN). Congress should go further, and rescind ACORN'S tax-exempt status.

ITEM New Orleans is one of ACORN'S three national hdq located at 2609 Canal St. and 2610 Iberville St, New Orleans. (Washington, DC, and NYC are the other two).

ITEM Now Louisiana AG Bobby Caldwell has subpoenaed ACORN, former ACORN head Wade Rathke, and the group's bank, Whitney Bank.......seeking information back to 1998 on ACORN and some 361 tax-exempt and non-tax-exempt outfits in its universe.

ITEM At the Orleans Parish Clerk of Courts Office, a Sept. 3 IRS filing showed that "Elysian Fields Corp, Inc, (Alter Ego of ACORN)" skipped 5 quarterly withholding-tax payments -- for income, Soc/Sec and Medicare levies in 2005-08, and made no federal unemployment-tax payments for the fourth quarters of 2007 and 2008.

ITEM Citizens Consulting, Inc--ACORN's bookkeeping arm, details 66 withholding-tax payments that Citizens Consulting skipped in 2002-08, totaling more than $300,000 (online at pelicaninstitute.org.)
