Congress Slaps ACORN Again
Boston Globe ^ | September 25, 2009 | Foon Rhee

Posted on 09/25/2009 1:35:27 PM PDT by nickcarraway

Abandoned by even many of its Democratic allies, ACORN hit back today at Congress after it slapped the latest penalty on the community advocacy group.

The House voted today to avert a possible government shutdown next week by temporarily extending the current federal budget. But Democrats inserted a provision saying that ACORN could not receive funding under the stopgap measure or any prior legislation.

“To include language in legislation that targets a single organization is unconstitutional and wrong," ACORN CEO Bertha Lewis said in a statement. Congressman Nadler said it best: “The punishment here did not follow some criminal or administrative process with basic due process protections. It flowed out of a Fox News network report, which led the call for a public lynching. There was no statement of charges and no reference to a judicial or administrative finding of wrongdoing by ACORN.' ”

Lewis added that ACORN is being singled out unfairly -- after a controversy started when employees it later fired appeared to advise conservative activists posing as a prostitute and her pimp on how to skirt the law -- when other groups and corporations are accused of doing much worse.

“One unintended - and positive - consequence of the witch hunt against ACORN is that it could help rein in the likes of Halliburton and Blackwater and even Wall St," she said in the statement. "If the standard is that organizations that have broken the law shouldn’t get federal money, then let’s set that standard consistently. There are numerous corporations that have been proven records of malfeasance. For its part – and although we don’t claim perfection in our work for poor and working families - ACORN has never been convicted of any crime in a court of law -

Show me in the Constitution where it was right for them to get it to begin with.

First of all, this woman has NO IDEA what the Constitution says.

Second, she is head of an organization that exclusively supports a political party that wipes it's butt with this document EVERY DAY.

(rolls eyes)

Oh, you mean like a 95% tax on bonuses by AIG? That's right, I do seem to remember ACORN screaming foul when Congress was trying to do that. No wait. Check that. ACORN was the one busing people out to the CEOs homes to picket in front of their children. Never mind.

A bill of attainder is Unconstitutional.

A bill of attainder implies a fine or imprisonment or some form of judicial punishment.

Not receiving Federal money, or being told you are not eligible to receive Federal money is not a judicial punishment.

Now that their supply of government money is drying up, they notice the Constitution.

The tread’s coming off the tire. Won’t be long before ACORN folks start turning against their own by sharing the misdeeds of congress with the world.

ACORN has never been convicted of any crime in a court of law...............

Just because Holder won't prosecute them? They are being investigated for voter fraud in 12 states. In Nevada Acorn voter registered a professional football team.

This is not about prosecution, its about politics, and organizing a replacement for ACORN...shortly coming down the pike from the Obama Junta.

It definately is not unconstitutional nor is it wrong.
Getting funds from taxpwyers is supossed to create good things. NOT FRAUD.

ACORN needs to be charged with RICO laws, dismantled, and leaders need to go to Prison.

Cutting off Acorn's funding is not unconstitutional since it was Congress that funded Acorn to begin with. Now, if the bill to cut off funding went on to subject the members of Acorn to prison or to fine them without the benefit of a trial, then it would be unconstitutional.
