WASHINGTON (AP) - The Treasury Department's inspector general is looking into the government's oversight of tax-exempt organizations like ACORN when they engage in political activities.

The office of California Republican Rep. Darrell Issa disclosed the IG's decision on Thursday amid a controversy over videotapes of ACORN employees offering advice about how to establish a brothel with underage prostitutes.

And legitimate charities will be left unscathed, is that right?

I remember the outrage when the radicals thought churches were endorsing candidates. Again this is more of the usual radical hypocrisy.

Get rid of the income tax and the whole “tax exempt” problem evaporates over night. Also hundreds of $billions, $trillions of dead weight on the economy.

I've been harping about these bogus "non-profits" for years here on FR. I first started complaining about them when I found out that Judicial Watch was a non-profit. There are about 500K more of them today than back then just a few years ago.

Should Jimmy Carter's foundation with 100's of millions be a "charity". How about the Anti-Defamation League who pays it's head over $400,000 a year? How about Consumer's Union who published Consumer Reports and has 100's of millions in the bank and pays it's handlers big bucks? How about all the "green" groups or a host of others? how about ACORN!!!???

These are not charities! They feed nobody and they clothe nobody! Many times they are enriching their handlers or pushing their own political goals. Rainbow Push and it's affiliates? Al Sharpton's gang?

It's time for America to throw out the non-profit corporation laws and start over from scratch. If the entity does not put something on someones plate or on their backs it should pay taxes! It should pay 100% postage, etc!

Go to Mexico and other countries and try to start a nonprofit. They don't exist. In fact, that's one of the problems with American nonprofits going in to Mexico and doing work. The Mexicans saw from this years ago that the stupid Gringos will GIVE YOU FREE STUFF and that's why they started coming here.

Taxpayers have been ripped off by a lot of these so-called nonprofits. It's way past time to either do away with all corporate taxes or rein in these nonprofits that are actaully real businesses.

I too have been advocating all NP’s be ended and the entire NP law be reviewed and possibly done away with but at least make it extremely difficult to get an NP designation and/or to hold one.
