GARRETTSVILLE, Ohio Authorities say a parachute failed to fully open during a tandem jump at a northwestern Ohio skydiving center, killing an instructor and his student.
Witnesses say instructor Daniel Mathie and student Sierra Thomas spiraled to the ground Saturday night. They landed in a field near the Cleveland Parachute Center and were pronounced dead at the scene.

Outlaw Gravity Now!
They don’t make an airplane big enough to hold all the people it would take to throw me out of it.
I feel the same way!
I live not far from there. Sad thing.
Sad weekend for all, I had a friend die on his cycle.
I’d rather die doing something than doing nothing.
Prayers Up!
Hmm trash packin chutes aint cute.
Huh?
This place had a good rating.
Really Sad. Prayers to the family and friends
When I was in college (Kent State University - circa 1978) this same group ran ads in the college paper. A bunch of us all decided we’d sky dive. Two days before our “jump” - a girl died much the same way.
We all changed our minds. I’ve never had the urge to sky dive since.
Not saying this was or wasn’t. Travis an I have discussed trash packing pros an cons.before. Hope this instructor wasn’t doing it.
The instructor was one who died.
Bad thig.
I would never jump out of a plane.
Just sad, he was 30 , the other 22.
Doak said after Mathie opened the parachute, the canopy did not fully open, and it began to spiral.
Terrible, the young woman first jump!
I read that. Prayers for their family an friends.

Thanks.
Prayers up for them and families.
I rather be flying, I trust and know that.
There is a jump site 2 miles from work, watch them all day.
They have a good rep, but have lost a couple over the years.
I was wondering about the backup parachute.
From the link in #15 ...
Mathie did have a reserve, or back-up, parachute, but it was not activated. For some reason he never was able to jettison the main canopy. You have to get rid of the chute above it before the (reserve) will open,
Like Folgers,Always Good to the Last Drop
Sky diving and bungee jumping are 2 things I have never had any inclination to do. Otherwise, I am a robust, viral, exciting, man of action, and stuff. But, I know gravity works, so it seems pointless to test it unnecessarily.
Prayers for the families.
