While White House spokesman Robert Gibbs today refrained from telling reporters whether President Obama in his speech Wednesday night will set a deadline for passing health care reform, sources tell ABC News that in his private meeting with Democratic congressional leaders this afternoon the key word was urgency.

The president told House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., that it is important for them to pass health care reform bills soon, the sources said.

Both leaders told the president that despite the difficult rough and tumble of the legislative process in the last few weeks, they are optimistic that both the House and Senate can pass health care reform legislation

Passing Obamcare will be the kiss of death for every member of Congress who votes for it. If passed Republicans should start running on a platform of repealing it.

“Glad to see the dims listened to the townhallers. /sarc.”

There will be a HUGE political price to pay for ramming something this unpopular down Americans throats.

It will guarantee a backlash at the ballot box BIGTIME next year.

Plus much of it no doubt will get legislated away later as the dems lose power.

Obama the educated fool is committing political suicide.

They are putting the best face they can on it. They have all these members on the fence. Saying they have the votes puts the members in the position of having to disbelieve that satement to vote no.

Can Freepers come up with any other examples in history of a bill this unpopular getting passed?

The liberals have decided they know better then the people. All of us bitter clingers should just shut up.

Hopefully the sheer numbers that turn out on the Mall on Saturday will be enough to scare the Liberals into listening to the People.

They have got to get that camel’s nose under the tent
some how, what ever way they can. Any “victory” is
another step in the forging of the chains. This thing
must be stopped NOW. If we have to fight to try and undo
the evil workings already set in motion, we are already
at a disadvantage.

Stop the collectivization of Health care now.

dims listened to the townhallers

They either DID or they WILL.

If the dems DID, then Nasty Peelousi and dingy harry are bluffing (not unusual).
If the dems DID NOT listen, they WILL come 2010 elections.

I’m betting that enough DID listen. These people value their cushie congress seats more than anything else. Their first loyalty is to themselves, second maybe DNC, third or forth comes America.

More likely, it will scare Baraq into appointing a new martial law czar to implement crowd control in public places.

When an individual forces themselves on another despite repeated requests to stop, what is that called?

When a government forces themselves on citizens despite repeated requests to stop, what is that called?

Are you assuming they still believe in the ballot box?

I just heard on the radio that the public option is dead in the Senate and that a key member of the Dem party said that he will not vote for any bill that contains the public option. Then I heard that they did have a bill that required every person to have health insurance.

Maybe. It may make it easier for Dems to vote 'No.' Members who have not promised the leasershipthat they will vote 'Yes' can see this as a green light to do what they need to do to get reelected. After all, Pelosi had already said she had the votes.

Is Pelosi that dense? Absolutely. When Steny Hoyer says they have the votes, it will be time to pull out all the stops.

I went to the Tea Party in Jackson Michigan today. I estimate that the crowd was about 70% retirement age people or older. The democrats have gone insane if they think they can throw the most rock solid demographic under the bus like that.

We got a pretty good turnout in a small town when the local paper refused to advertize that the tea party express was coming.
