I really admire Van Jones, Obama's former "green jobs" appointee. Some would say it's maybe even a crush.
He wrote "The Green Collar Economy: How One Solution Can Fix Our Two Biggest Problems." He also co-founded both the Ella Baker Center for Human Rights and Green for All.
I met him at a Green For All conference held in Memphis several years ago and I was impressed by his vision, his leadership skills, and the way people flock to him.
So I was disappointed to see that, after being the victim of a weeks-long smear campaign by Fox News' Glenn Beck, Jones resigned from his position with the White House Council on Environmental Quality over the weekend.
Other reaction has been mixed.
Alternet's Don Hazen says that progressives are better off with Jones out of the White House.
"He's Been Rescued From Obscurity: Special adviser to the Council for Environmental Quality. Hmm. That doesn't quite have the ring of power and influence. Jones took one for the team by taking an obscure position in the first place. And he took another one for the team by realizing quickly that the right-wing smear campaign against him was going to be a distraction.
Now Jones is free to climb to a much higher level of visibility and influence millions of people in ways he couldn't at that White House job."
The New Republic's John McWhorter says the administration should have dismissed criticism against Jones as nonsense:
"With the Obama Administration letting Green Jobs czar Van Jones resign, questions as to whether these people have any spine are becoming sadly legitimate."
And, from a Green For All statement on Jones' resignation:
"Like the great social justice movements of the 20th century, our movement for an inclusive green economy is based in the most fundamental American values: equality, justice, and opportunity for all.
That's why our opponents reduced the debate to fear, hatred, and division. They cannot win a debate about values. They cannot win a debate about solutions.
Our allies and friends may be redirected by these attacks, and focus on the rants of those who fear our vision. For Green For All, our struggle must be defined by the issues our opponents refuse to debate: ending global warming; lifting people out of poverty; restoring the economy; and bringing health to our communities. These are the challenges that matter the most."
How in the world have we come to the point where 9/11 truthers and self-described communists can be "Czars" that run multi-billion dollar projects and make important decisions about our society and country's future? Why did my father and millions like him risk their lives in World War II, Vietnam and Korea? Why did millions like myself risk our lives in the Cold War? Was that all a GAME?!! Let me go to the VA Hospital and tell all the Korea and Vietnam vets "Thanks for your service, but now the communists are running our government, so your sacrifice was in vain!"
He’s an “expert” on “green jobs”, but he’s never created one.
Go figure.
Man Made Global Warming is a scam. It’s lucrative and worth potentially trillions of dollars. That is a very green job if you can get it.

The only “green jobs” are lawyers, accountants and financial wizards who’ve already been benefitting from all this crap.

WTF??!! Beck presented Van Jones' own words. No smear, no speculation, supposition, no misrepresentation. Just...facts.
Jones couldn't stand up to the scrutiny and ran hiding from the light like a cockroach.

Exactly what would this be about, was there an agenda published? Sounds like one of the real-estate scams of the 70's, 80's , 90's (or later). How long will it be before we see Van Jones at midnight hawking this stuff on an infomercial.

It is tragic that as a people, we became so apathetic and disassociated from reality as to elect a man that made his anti-American feelings painfully obvious and telegraphed his intentions for this country all during the 2008 presidential campaign. I don't consider Obama a 'stealth' candidate. Sadly, the majority of U.S. voters ignored the glaring reality of Obama's anti-Americanism while the GOP offered up only a token candidate (John McCain) and now, we're on a path of sure destruction of everything we hold dear in America.
The good news is that (I believe) the Democrats will go down in flames in the 2010 election and that most of their mischief can be reversed by a Republican congress with some real conservatives. Unfortunately, we're stuck with Obama for another 3 years and 8 months - but a solid GOP majority willing to go against the 'historic' president that is ruining our economy and plans to screw up most everything else, can thwart most of his leftist initiatives.
The agonizing slowness of the 'average' American to recognize the enormity of the mistake they made in the last election is frustrating - but they are waking up. The Van Jones story was ignored by the 'mainstream' media but Beck, Fox News and conservative talk radio kept the light focused on Jone's breathtakingly stupid and outrageous comments. Many were made fairly recently so this couldn't be swept under the rug as 'old news'. So, Van Jones is gone, at least gone from where he can be noticed, but there are still close to 30 'Czars' in the rancid Obama administration. That is ridiculous but hardly surprising and just Chicago politics writ large in the nation's capitol. It's gonna be an interesting next few years.
Gee, I’m amazed that people are getting the news that Van Jones has resigned... after all, the news of his controversy never made it into the mainstream media. Heaven forbid that the MSM reports on Van Jones communist/Marxist background and proud heritage... heaven forbid that people hear Van Jones characterizing about half of all Americans as “*ssholes”.
Maybe these people should consider Obama’s vetting process for allowing these creeps into these positions of power without any Congressional approval or oversight.
Some American idiots/uhbamatrons will never wake up.
