Unemployment comp must be pretty good, the sports stadiums all seem to be crowded. Have to check how the pros are doing tomorrow. Hard to figure out what’s happening.

And government employees in their early fifties are still retiring with fat tax paid retirement pensions...

For now...lol

I find myself unemployed for the first time ever ... in a career that (so far) has lasted 13 years. So far two months unemployed, got my very first unemployment check in the mail last week. I almost wept, I’ve never taken government money before.

Closer review of data might indicate a rate of 20%. Have seen that figure somewhere.

I wish someone could come up with a way for there to be better “official” numbers.

Its 40% in the central valley...the feds cut off the water to save the minnow (or some such little fish).

Food hand outs are working 24/7.

Miles and miles of dust on both sides of Hwy 5....formerly the garden of California.

Farms, packing and truckers doing bankrupt by the day...the whole farming community in foreclosure. ...read it and weep.

Or people like my hubby and I, self employed for 10 years, cannot collect unemployment because we are corporate officers (even though we pay the freaking FUTA tax!!! oh that pisses me off). We haven’t been on ANYONES payroll for 10 years, so we are lost in the mix. Work continues to trickle in,just enough to pay the mortgage and keep food on the table, not much else. Hubby is now working on motorcycles, building fences or whatever anyone needs him to do. Luckily a lot of our friends have seen his handiwork, and hire him right away when they need something done. Just about everything on our property was built by him, and they know it’s done RIGHT! Check out my profile for a look at our raised garden that he built. Not sure how much longer we can last like this, but something always seems to pop up. Just keep on praying, I guess.

OH CRAP! I moved a bunch of pictures into albums on photobucket, and now none of them are showing in my profile! Will have to rememedy that!

I’m so sorry to hear of your suffering. May I ask what field it was that you were working in previously?

I’m a computer programmer in the gaming industry. It’s not that bad right now for me, I’ll have to pick up and move for work — but at least I have some prospects. I was more sad because I’ve never had to take a cent from the government before and it felt so strange.

The fact is that it has never been like this before — I could find a job in literally less than a week and would have to turn down lots of offers. Now, I have to go to Boston or Texas to find work. Amazing what has happened under the leadership of Dear Reader.

Well it great to hear that your prospects are so strong, Texas definitely has a lot to offer IMO. As for taking unemployment benefits though you shouldn't feel guilty about that, it's insurance that you've paid into during your working years.

Well best of luck to you.
