The Bible of choice for conservative Christians is the KJV. No one should hold a copyright on God’s work.
Mohammed holds a copyright on his version of the Bible too.

The KJV was also copyrighted at the time it was translated (it has since run out obviously.) The point being that the KJV springs from the same “copyrighted poisioned well” that the NIV springs from.
I do agree in principal though that it is preferable for a Bible translation to be in the public domain.
The problem with the KJV is that it was translated into the language of its day, but the English language has passed it by.
I consult as many translations as possible.
The most accurate versions are in Hebrew and Greek.

What bible should conservative Catholic Christians use?
So you think the KJV is really a more accurate translation of the original Hebrew and Greek than more modern translations? What basis do you have for this claim?
Huh...actually as a conservative christian, I prefer an NASB or if not unavailable a NKJV. Have you ever checked the Net bible, that is pretty good too.

Absolutely! And KJV aren’t always easy to find any more.
Since we’re on a Bible thread, can anyone recommend a company that does a good job re-covering older Bibles? Have had mine since ‘68. The binding is good, but the cover is in terrible shape.
It’s good to have a number of different versions around to reference.
The Geneva Bible
The King James
The New King James
The NIV New Intl Version
The NASB
The American Standard Version
It is best to use bible versions that have had teams of scholars translating them from original Greek, Aramaic and Hebrew languages. On the worst ned of the spectrum are ‘bibles’ that are paraphrased from existing bibles - they are the least accurate and are not translations from accepted and known biblical texts.
Not true, many conservative Christians prefer the NIV,not the TNIV and not the KJV> Although I do agree about the copyright. God did NOT write the KJV, contrary to popular opinion.
not this one...
I love the beauty of the KJV, but for daily use, I go with the NIV. Aside from the infuriating gender terms, my absolute favorite translation is the NLT. For comparison, I also use the Amplified, ESV, NASB, NKJV, and even the Message.
I don't necessarily agree that the KJV is the best choice for conservative Christians, though it certainly is a more literal translation than some I've listed above. Remember that it's only about 400 years old, though, and written in English, so not completely accurate. The KJV makes a blatant error in translating 1 Corinthians 13:13: "And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity." The NIV and others get it right when they translate it faith, hope and LOVE. You need only to look at the original Greek to spot the word for love (agape), not charity. It's been said that the use of "charity" in this verse is part of the reason some people believe that their salvation is works-based, and not simply a free gift of grace.
I guess if you really want to find the conservative Christian's best choice, you have to go back to the original Hebrew and Greek manuscripts!! :^)
