Believe me, I know what your saying - I teach secondary school in Australia, and while my school (an ‘elite’ private school) is shielded from the very worst aspects of the PC ideology pervading education, I see its effects. And we still have our share of problematic parents (in some cases, it’s worse - because they are directly paying for their child’s education and paying a lot, they think that they’ve discharged all responsibility and can just sit back and expect us to do everything. And then complain if somehow it doesn’t match what they wanted and never made clear).

I've spanked all my 5 kids...some more than others.

The toddler has only had his hand slapped when he does something dangerous.

Hopefully he will learn from watching the others get lit up.

Spanked boys far more than girls.

Today's kids are far far less respectful than we were when I was in grade school 40 years ago....even here in Tennessee only a handful address elders respectfully when I'm at school and thug talk even amongst rich white kids is endemic.

You can tell the difference on this forum too btw...

It's just all part of how much worse of we are now than then except technologically.

The problem begins with the notion that human beings are basically good. I get that all the time from my boomer children. It’s the same old lie that the serpent told Eve. You will be like God. Ha, NOT. Anybody who has had children should be able to see that we are born as animals and we have to be civilized. Little toddlers, as cute and precious as they are, can lie and hit out at others and conceal things. Thousands of years of “learning” taught human beings that unpleasant results to bad behavior will stop the behavior. We have thrown out all that experience.

You know, I think that people could learn a lot about training chilren by watching the “Dog Whisperer”. There is little difference in the psychology. I was whipped on the behind with a belt by my Dad, and with a switch by my Mom. It never entered my mind to think of it as cruel. I loved them and knew that they were training me how to do right. I thank them for that.

The more people are excused and not punished for bad behavior, the more coarse our society becomes. Ironic that soft treatment makes for worse outcome.

Amen....thank God toddlers don’t have machine guns...they’d kill anyone who takes their paci for nite nite or lovey..lol

I have kids from 2-21 and the culture war distance between me and manynew GenY parents with “education” is stark....

God bless you...fellow traveler

and don’t get me started on “where have all the real (gentle) men gone?”

Ha. I thought I was the only one who spread my kids out over that much time. Well, I'm in the grandma phase and nothing has really changed as far as I'm concerned. Thank God, the grandchild is always good when with me. It's only when her mother walks in the door that she goes ballistic. That education thing gets in the way of proper behavior. Worse, her mother is a kindergarden teacher.

So I've got to go and clean off her tire swing. Later.
