BOSTON – President Barack Obama led the nation Saturday in mourning and remembering "the greatest legislator of our time," celebrating the indelible impact of Edward M. Kennedy as a senator for nearly a half-century and leader of America's most famous family during tragedy and triumph.

Delivering an emotional, simple eulogy for Kennedy that capped a two-hour Roman Catholic funeral Mass, Obama employed humor, his own experiences and timeless anecdotes to memorialize the senator, who died Tuesday at 77 after battling brain cancer for more than a year. The country may have viewed him as "heir to a weighty legacy," Obama said, but he was playfully known by the youngest Kennedys less grandly: as the big cheese, "The Grand Fromage."

"Ted Kennedy's life's work was not to champion those with wealth or power or special connections," Obama said. "It was to give a voice to those who were not heard, to add a rung to the ladder of opportunity, to make real the dream of our founding."

The president said that "though it is Ted Kennedy's historic body of achievements we will remember, it is his giving heart that we will miss."

He was all for taking money from some to give to others. A virtue these days, it seems.

Well, that should bring his tracking score up two or three points for the next week, and drop the stock market two to three hundre.

taking money from some to give to others

Aw, don't be so hard on him, Norm. After all, he could write nice, helpful letters to the KGB.

“He was all for taking money from some to give to others. A virtue these days, it seems.”

Except for his. You may remember the fact that he owned a shopping mall back in the 80’s and was caught treating his emplyees like dirt. Minimum wage and all. I hope the SOB rots in hell.

Mary Jo Kopechne’s death was a tragedy. But caused by Teddy. Did Barack mention that?

I feel bad for the Bushes having to sit there. Clintons to the right, Obamas in front, Kennedys to the left...that’s truly a nightmare!

I plan to get to work early Monday morning to stand in front of the Headquarters Building where I will watch the flag raised to full staff and stay there where it belongs!

It’s his third time in church since he was elected. One was a Unitarian church. He did go visit a mosque when he was globe trotting.

President Barack Obama led part the nation Saturday in mourning

There, fixed it. He didn't lead me in mourning for that fat, drunken SOB.
