DC Chapter AAR – WRAMC DOG DAYS OF SUMMER ARRIVE
My drug addled brain | 27 August 2009 | Jimmy Valentine's brother

Posted on 08/27/2009 6:03:06 PM PDT by Jimmy Valentine's brother

14 & 21 August 2009 Elder Street and Georgia Avenue, Washington, DC

On 14 August Mrs T spotted an Azzhat poster with the words, “Thank God for IEDs” printed on it. She didn’t get a picture of it so you’ll just have to take her word. My experience says her word is pretty damn good.

On 21 August we had weather make up all around us and it finally cut loose. I wanted to go down the street and pass out soap but Mrs T wanted to have a wet tee shirt contest. Without any beer it was hard to judge a winner. Mr. T decided I was the winner of the drowned rat award. Anyways we hope you’ll stop by when you all are in town. We’re pretty good talkers but we’d like some new ears to chew on as ours are pretty well worn out.

Anyways here some shots Mrs T took on the 14th. You regular readers should be able to spot who’s who so I’ll just list the folks names and let you match ‘em up. Let’s see Bufordp, Cindy-true-supporter, 3-D-Joy, both trooprallys, Fraxnius, Sensi Ern, GunsareOK, Lurker Bill.

One more thing Friday’s are for wearing red to support the troops!

On August 21 there was Ron G Kirby, 3-D Joy, Cindy, Trooprallys, Lurker "B” and the Fraxter.

Sometimes folks forget about red shirt Friday.

As you know, BufordP keeps ever one of the Walter Reed AAR’s in A SPECIAL PLACE so if you’re having trouble deciding who’s who you could go there and get some hints.

Stop by DC Chapter Bloggers:
CHCKNHAWK’s Blog at A Soldier’s Perspective
Tom the Redhunter's blog
PleaDeal's (GunnNutt) blog at Semper Gratus

Not to be too repetitious, but we have been told many, many, many times that the wounded warriors inside the hospital are heartened by the sight of ordinary citizens cheering for them and displaying our thanks for the service and sacrifice they've made on our behalf. We hope that if you find yourself in the DC Area on a Friday evening that you’ll swing by for a visit.

No I was not at Woodstock nor Edgartown in 1969. However, I did pass thru Ft. Dix NJ in August.

Look forward to your visit. Pack a pair of thermals just incase. Walter Reed will be shutting down it’s treatment in the future but not by January.

Real good AAR. Thanks. You may have received the drowned rat award but you kept your cigar lit. I wimped out and waited for the rain to stop. Rain held off towards the end and we packed up only wet, but not dripping wet, flags and banners.

Looking forward to being at walter reed on the 11th. I know somewhere on this sight directions to wr via the metro have been posted; but i can’t find them.

would you mind posting them on the main forum page for those of us who are ‘directionally challenged’.

I have a feeling it’s going to be a big crowd on the 11th. Maybe local volunteers at the metro station to herd all us hicks in the ‘right’ direction.

PS. I’ll be the guy wearing red

Here's a link to the Washington Metropolitan Tranist Autority Trip Planner So that you can figure out how to use public transportation to WRAMC.
We will be located on the intersection of Georgia Ave, which runs North and South and Elder Avenue. WRAMC is in DC just in case.
Check the location on google maps.
Here's some suggested itineraries. These only get you to WRAMC but you can plan a round trip at the WAMATA site.

Traveling from TAKOMA to GEORGIA AVE NW & ELDER ST NW on 9/11/2009
Bus: Departs from TAKOMA METRO STATION at 6:00PM
Take K1 BUS towards WALTER REED AND TAKOMA STATION
Arrive : NW GEORGIA AV & NW FERN ST at 6:10PM
Walk : 0.05 mile S to GEORGIA AVE NW & ELDER ST NW
CASH FARE: $ 1.35

Traveling from TAKOMA to GEORGIA AVE NW & ELDER ST NW on 9/11/2009
Bus: Departs from TAKOMA METRO STATION at 6:04PM
Take 52 BUS towards L'ENFANT PLAZA
Arrive : ASPEN ST & GEORGIA AV at 6:08PM
Walk : 0.35 mile N to GEORGIA AVE NW & ELDER ST NW
CASH FARE: $ 1.35

BP and TR - maine yankee suggested that we provide something to JR to post on the Home Page

We’ll be there.

Walking is also a good possibility. Takoma station is only 1/2 mile.

We are planning to have a car pool around 6PM for and FReepers who really can’t walk that distance. And then around 8PM back so that FReepers can get back to the hotel for the 9/11 Vigil. The regulars and others who come will stay till the Molonge House bus back.
