Members of the Kennedy clan were summoned to the family's compound in Hyannis Port Tuesday night to say tearful farewells to the man remembered today as an icon of American politics but known to them as Uncle Teddy.

(Brian Snyder/Reuters) In keeping with a family tradition, they gathered around the bed of Sen. Ted Kennedy to pray.
The Rev. Patrick Tarrant, who was present with the family during those final hours, said he was impressed by Kennedy's spirituality and faith in his last moments.
The priest said family members were crying and that in his final moments Kennedy was "a man of quiet prayer."
"The truth is, he had expressed to his family that he did want to go," Tarrant told WCVB, ABC News' Boston affiliate. "He did want to go to heaven. He did want to die... He was ready to go.

To be fair the actual headline was:
Ted Kennedy Was Surrounded by Crying, Praying Family
The Rev. Patrick Tarrant, who was present with the family during those final hours, said he was impressed by Kennedy’s spirituality and faith in his last moments.
The priest said family members were crying and that in his final moments Kennedy was “a man of quiet prayer.”
“The truth is, he had expressed to his family that he did want to go,” Tarrant told WCVB, ABC News’ Boston affiliate. “He did want to go to heaven.
Not euthanasia, as he was critical vote for Obamacare, and it’s “just deserts” that he was behind getting it fixed for appointing replacement...They were trying to get that mistake redone, but don’t think they got it accomplished.
Far too much BS to comment on.
I suspect the wish to end it all was more to do with the final reckoning he knew he faced, and the sordid life he had led.
>> He did want to die... He was ready to go.
Whaddayaknow. I never thought I’d agree with the Swimmer on anything! It goes to show you never can tell.
They probably had to pry his fingers loose from the door frame...
yeah , he outlasted most doctors time period...fought all the way with no gooberment flunkies asking him to take a pill
went with the best treatment available!
There is a priest who should be defrocked.
He had no other choice. I’m sure the evidence points to a desperate grasp at living right to the final moments knowing what demons he had inside of him with what he’s done his entire life. He was a scumbag right to the end as evidenced by his political appointment push to overturn the law he had earlier pushed when it wasn’t politically convenient. Now we play the games of assigning good qualities to a man who really showed time and again what is wrong with man.
I hope he really had remorse for all the terrible things he did and said about people. The Kennedys may be important on this globe but I wonder what St Peter is going to say.
The good news is if Obamascare gets approved Kennedy will qualify for an MRI to determine if he has a brain tumor... after the 2 year waiting period of course.
Well, say hello to Mary Jo if you get there...
I’m sure he wanted to go to heaven, but that decision is “beyond his pay grade”
“Ted Kennedy Was Surrounded by Crying, Praying Family”
Well, just go away...you’re dead now and the “myth” of the Kennedys should go away with you.
This whole article is bogus and another myth.
The truth is also that his brain was eaten up with cancer when he said it.
Conceivable.
Not sure Heaven’s bought it.
Would be much more convincing if his estate was 100% willed to anti-abortion causes as a Biblical “meat for repentance” in the KJV.
He had a choice?
Ted always wanted to go out with a smile on his face, like Nelson Rockefeller...not screaming and crying, like Megan Marshack.
I'm trying to figure out this "family tradition" thing.
John died from a bullet. Jack died from a bullet. If I remember correctly, Joe died in a plane crash in WWII. The immediate family doesn't quite have a long history of dying in bed.
