Kennedy’s Death Spurs Calls to Pass Health Legislation

The death of Sen. Edward Kennedy quickly became a rallying cry for Congress to pass health care overhaul legislation.

Somehow I got on the DCCC e-mail list. This is what Chris Hollins wrote today.

With the passing of Senator Ted Kennedy, a family lost its patriarch, the U.S. Senate lost its most gifted legislator, and America lost an unparalleled leader.

Senator Ted Kennedy was elected in Massachusetts, but to millions of Americans he was our Senator. A tenacious fighter for working men and women who share the belief that America is the greatest country in the world. So, let me get this straight...

- a man who, due to personal wealth that he never worked a day to earn, was able to go to the best doctors in the world to treat his terminal cancer, the type of care that would never be covered by a government run health care plan, dies...

- and THAT is the reason to shove through a piece of legislation that wouldn’t provide the same care to people who work for a living, and would probably deny treatment due to the terminal nature of said cancer, under which the very Members of Congress would not apply.
