Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett will make his first public appearance Wednesday since being severely injured in an attack in West Allis.
Barrett will make several brief remarks and take a limited number of questions at an 11:30 a.m. news conference at his home in Washington Heights, according to a statement from his chief of staff, Patrick Curley.
Barrett was attacked Saturday night after leaving the Wisconsin State Fair with two of his daughters, sister and niece and answering a woman's call for help in the 8800 block of W. Orchard St.
Police have identified the alleged attacker as Anthony J. Peters, 20, of Milwaukee, whose photo has not been released while investigators arrange for witnesses to view lineups. He was arrested Sunday in the 900 block of N. 18th St.
According to West Allis police, the mayor's attacker was quarreling with the woman, the grandmother of Peters' 1-year-old daughter. Barrett intervened and pulled out his cell phone to call 911 when Peters threatened to use a gun. Peters began punching him and eventually struck him several times with an extendable, police-style baton, authorities say.
Barrett was released from Froedtert Hospital in Wauwatosa on Monday after being treated for injuries to his head and hand.
On Tuesday night, Peters' mother, Danita Brisk, defended her son's actions in a telephone interview with WTMJ-TV (Channel 4). She described her son as "bipolar, off his medication, borderline psychotic."
"When he's on his medication, he's a totally different person," Brisk said.
Brisk told the TV station that she thinks Barrett provoked her son and that she wishes the mayor hadn't intervened.
"I was raised to keep to yourself," she said.
"If it would have been any other individual besides the mayor," Brisk told WTMJ, "I mean, it wouldn't even have hit the news. My son probably wouldn't have been arrested. None of this would even be happening."
The case against Peters will be presented to the Milwaukee County district attorney's office for review Wednesday morning, Chief Deputy District Attorney Kent Lovern said Tuesday in an e-mail. A decision on charges will not be made until Wednesday afternoon at the earliest, Lovern said
Amazing how this mother defends her animal of a child and blames Whitey for being in the wrong place at the wrong time!
Probably another aspiring rap artist trying to turn his life around.
"A conservative is a liberal that has been mugged" ?
The mayor’s political affiliation? The mayor of Milwaukee? Take one wild guess!
“The friend said he has known Peters for five years, and they both attended Spotted Eagle, an alternative high school for American Indian students. “Most people probably don’t have the chance to even meet the mayor, and he goes and beats him up,” he said.”
Uh...interesting comment from the best friend.
It’s not supposed to be this way. That psych-drug induced violence is only supposed to happen to the “little” people so that the “big” people can pass more laws to protect the “little” people. (And provide more money for more drugs). Pretty slick, eh?
On Tuesday night, Peters’ mother, Danita Brisk, defended her son’s actions in a telephone interview with WTMJ-TV (Channel 4). She described her son as “bipolar, off his medication, borderline psychotic.”
Sorry Mrs Brisk. Those are explanations but not defenses for what your son did. Tens of thousands of citizens are bi-polar,have various mental issue and do not beat a man with a weapon for trying to assist a women.
If it would have been any other individual besides the mayor,” Brisk told WTMJ, “I mean, it wouldn’t even have hit the news. My son probably wouldn’t have been arrested. None of this would even be happening
While possibly assauling a female, the perp then beats a man that goes to the womens aid and this Mother thinks her son would not even have beem arrested for beating a human being with a weapon that required hospitalization, if that human being had not been the Mayor?
I think I am beginning to see the source of her son’s problems...
Yeah, every time I got a call where someone got his front teeth knocked out with a metal pipe, I'd say "Sorry, I gotta let the perp go. I mean, it's not like you're the mayor or anything."
Witness a crime but ignore it? She's a liberal.
Brisk told the TV station that she thinks Barrett provoked her son and that she wishes the mayor hadn't intervened.
And all the Mayor did was whip out his cellphone.
A dangerous violent bipolar? Just let him go. We need more of them around.
Funny how these violent momma-raised bastards are all bipolar now.
Even if the Mayor was a hard-core liberal you gotta give him props for checking the situation out and not just walking by. Hopefully he is a little more supportive of concealed carry now though - that would’ve been a good story: mayor detains/shoots violent criminal.
The solution for problems like this is obviously more gun control. Especially of hi-cap mags and sniper rifles.

Diana, your cruel remarks are uncalled for!
Anthony, a Physics and Biochemistry major at Wisconsin, plays the cello and reads himself Heidegger to sleep in his austere crib.
Then along come Whitey Barrett (but apparently not that white, as he claims Inoops Native American roots) to get between Anthony and his girlfriend, who were merely discussing the relative merits of various metaphysical poets. Like many sensitive Wisconsin scholars, he does have strong views on these matters, and so apparently, did she.
I do think Baby Momma Brisk should get some sort of financial remuneration here, not the least reason being that she named Peters (Peters? Who Peter's Baby Daddy?) "Anthony J.," not "Antwan," or "Tonay."
I think a hefty city check is the least Mayor Barrett could do to heal this rift between the Milwaukee African-Americans and his Native American community, after all,
Brisk described her son as "bipolar, off his medication, borderline psychotic." "When he's on his medication, he a totally different person..."
Sounds like the ideal Democrat Party candidate to me, or at least the typical Milwaukee Obama multiple voter.
Deserves a second post - I guess we are about to find out if this is merely a "saying" or a "truism". Perhaps he will become the Suzanne Gratia-Hupp of Wisconsin, leading the charge for concealed carry in WI as she did in TX after her parents were killed in front of her at a Luby's Cafeteria by a mental case?
West Allis - As Brad Krause planted a tree in his yard last summer, a neighbor noticed that in addition to a shovel, Krause had a tool not usually required for yard work - a gun in a holster.
Police arrived and gave Krause a ticket alleging disorderly conduct, launching a case that a national gun-rights group has been watching for months.
~snip~
Police responded to Krause's home in August after the neighbor called. They arrested Krause, gave him a disorderly conduct ticket and seized his gun.

The West Allis police identified the perp as one of their "local knuckleheads". But, they probably didn't have time to pursue him because they were busy disarming law abiding citizens.
He has stated he would veto Concealed Carry legislation.
Milwaukee is one of 450 cities that is listed on Mayors Against Illegal Guns ( co chair Micheal Bloomberg, Mayor New York City ).
Mayor Barrett (D) has been Stuck on Stupid in the past, not likely to change.
This “mom” should take the O’Reilly award for Pinhead of the Week for her comments on her son’s arrest.
And Barrett should get Pinhead of the Week down the road if he continues to be against concealed carry. (which he will) Geeesh!
According to yesterday’s paper, he was beaten — not with an ordinary pipe — but with a collapsible POLICE Baton! 4 or 5 teeth were knocked out of the Mayor’s head. Hand was smashed requiring surgery. Multiple hits on his body. Ribs broken? not sure about the ribs.
And there’s ample opportunity as this case drags on for the MOTHER of the baby in question to receive her very own PINHEAD of the WEEK award for choosing to breed with the first Pinhead of the Week. Prayers for all concerned — especially the baby.
