Meanness-Tested Program

August 18, 2009

Jay D. Homnick

[EXCERPT]

The Republicans in Congress are within an ace of winning a huge victory on the issue of health care, a spectacular triumph which can resonate across the countryside. If handled correctly, this success could resound clearly even above the media din. But it would require their doing the one thing they have always held back from, playing the trump card from the inside pocket. That is, to call the Democrats what they are: mean-spirited....

Now is their chance to strike back in kind, to teach a truth in an arena where it can be displayed with clarity. Everyday Americans, you-and-me Americans, down-home Americans, have been congregating gregariously in town halls to greet their egregious Congress persons. They have been giving pieces of their minds, feedback, flak, grief, and hell to their erstwhile representatives. But beyond the occasional raised voice the interplay has been civil. Civil as in civility, civil as in civil discourse, civil as in civic responsibility, civil as in civilization.

In response, the champions of health care for the downtrodden have offered a full dose of vitriol....

How to describe such behavior, if one wishes to eschew adjectives like crass, boorish, egotistical, supercilious, sanctimonious and condescending? You got it: mean-spirited.... MEAN-SPIRITED.

From this day forward, at least until the end of August, let the august halls ring with this cry. Every interview or press conference should feature the anti-socialist-medicine side referring to this mean-spirited crusade against ordinary Americans. This mean-spirited campaign to demonize concerned citizens. This mean-spirited attack against sincere people. This mean-spirited assault against folks standing up for their rights. Use it until it screams, squeeze it until it bleeds. It is a powerful winner of a word and for once has the added advantage of being true.......

Leftists claim to be "pro choice". If you watch what they actually do; you have to conclude that they hate choice (except for the choice of whether or not to bring a baby to term).

However flawed the American health care system is; it still has one huge and crucial advantage over government monopolies (such as we have here in Canada). That advantage is choices.

There’s nothing wrong with being mean-spirited; fighting dirty, dishonestly and unfairly; taking the low road; getting your hands dirty; or any such thing; as long as you win, that’s all that matters.

Let’s be clear about this. The Republicans have won NOTHING! If 0bamacare dies it’s because of the public NOT the Republicans.

I read an article today about the phony "choice" claims of liberals in regards to life...

When it comes to the sanctity of life, Obama & the Democrats burn the candle at both ends

That is certainly the case, as the entire article clearly points out.

They make up ophrases like “Failed policies of the Bush administration,” and it’s funny because they all say it, one after another. It makes for a humorous minute or two on Rush as he plays the montage of Democrats saying it. Then there’s “the Republican culture of corruption.” They all say it, over an over. All the writer is saying is that even weak-kneed and waffling Republicans can say “mean-spirited,” without feeling like the media will attack them and end their political carreers, like they did that Foley guy. All he did was make googly eyes at some male pages, and it was over for him. Bill Clinton plays ide the cigar with female pages, and his wife gets elected to the Senate.

Any Republican that goes with true and harsh words will become the temporary target of the media, giving Sarah Palin a short reprieve. And they will concentrate their wrath in such a way as to be sure no one tries that again. But mean-spirited is the truth, and something needs to be said in chorus.

Dead on the money. The Repubs are going to have to get mean-spirited, they’re blamed for it every day anyway so they’ve nothing to lose.

Every time Obama, Pelosi, Hoyer, Reid and many members of the mentally challenged Cong Black Caucus and Prog Caucus open their mouths with another ridiculous comment the Repubs have to start countering and countering hard. The Repubs should know by now that nice guys finish last on the Hill.
