A gun battle between Hamas and an Al Qaeda-inspired group that left about 30 dead last week is a sign of a growing movement inside the impoverished territory.
RAFAH, GAZA STRIP - Two years after its takeover of the Gaza strip, Hamas has faced down its greatest challenger: A militant, Al Qaeda-inspired organization that says Hamas is not Islamic enough.
Last Friday, Hamas forces and the Jund Ansar Allah (Soldier of God) movement fought a day-long gun and artillery battle that killed about 30 in the southern Gaza town of Rafah after the group's spiritual leader, Sheikh Abdel Latif Moussa, declared an Islamic emirate in Gaza and denounced Hamas. Mr. Moussa was killed in the fighting, centered on the mosque where he and his followers had gathered.
It was the first time an Al Qaeda-inspired group had directly challenged Hamas' rule in the Gaza Strip but it may not be the last. Fueled by the failure of Hamas to address the area's growing poverty and isolation, and Hamas' relative recent restraint in its confrontation with Israel, analysts say such organizations are growing in the territory.
"New groups of young people, they are fed up with what they see as Hamas' betrayal of the cause of Islamic ideology and of jihad," says Mordechai Kedar, a lecturer in Arabic Studies at Israel's Bar-Ilan University and senior researcher at the Begin-Sadat Center for Strategic Studies. "They view Hamas as having become too bureaucratic, too moderate, and they want action."

"Behold, you are with child, and shall bear a son; you shall call his name Ishmael; because The Lord has given heed to your affliction. He shall be a wild ass of a man, his hand against every man and every man's hand against him; and he shall dwell over against all his kinsmen." (Genesis 16:11-12 RSV).
I was just going to post what you said in your first sentence.
On top of it they are saying that Hamas is too moderate. Where is “moderate” Islam is coming to the rescue crowd now?
30 down... a few million to go.
The denial runs deep. Bush’s fault. He’s an idiot. But he planned it all along for them to be idiot and then reap the profits. You know, not like something the Democrate communist lawyer inspired public ed. system of dumbing down would not be planning. (sarc off).
Murder suicide anticapitalist and antisense cult is on the rise.
I know... when is the dam going to break. They are begging to prove the theory that the rich wants to profit from such aristocrate incompetent idiots (how, I don’t know). THey beg for a Hitler, for a master, for a punisher of their kinds. It’s nuts. We should sort of let them.
I think the differention between moderate and radical Islam is whether you provide the money or set out the IEDs.
Arabs have a pathological will to destroy themselves and their own civilizations very much in the same ways that liberals destroy all around them. Then both groups want to lord over the ruins. It is an amazing phenomenon of the human animal and, I believe, the reason why liberals always side with Arabs even though the latter would enslave and murder them. Its a kind of kinship.

“Extremist” Muslims want to kill us, “moderates” just want to dominate us.
Yes the two groups have much in common.
“THey beg for a Hitler, for a master, for a punisher of their kinds.”
But why?
Fueled by the failure of Hamas to address the area’s growing poverty and isolation,
The real issue: Hamas is funded by Shiite Iran. Al Queda is a Sunni-funded organization (with most of the funding appearing to come from our dear friends the Saudis.)
It may partly be that. A bigger part is that Leftists and Muslims are both collectivists, in that they believe that the individual exists to serve the Group. Whether the Group is the State or the Ummah (community of all Muslims) makes little difference. Both want individuals to be controlled, and are horrified by the idea of allowing individuals use their own energy and wealth to pursue their own goals.
“Personally, I think ita all about how Islamists exercise power.”
There is certainly an element of truth to that. Just looking at the current trio of fools in the FED displays such desire. But recall the old saying; “The enemy of my enemy is my friend”. It applies quite handily.
Leftists and Obama basically hate America . . that was clear to anyone who ever listened to Jeremiah Wright “preach”. They are in league with the Arab Palestinians, because they too hate America.
Did you notice how Obama always smiles broadly when meeting with Hugo Chavez but frequently frowns when speaking with the President of Columbia Uribe? Obama likes Chavez because they both hate the American tradition, and Obama opposes Uribe because of his support of the American government.
lol!
Da7lan gangs strike again.
I suppose they are incompetent, evil savage exploiters of “science”, and they want an excuse to loot and attack the rich/goods, as well as a mean to avoid punishment for messing it all up. So they are seeking a narcissist scapegoatable persecutor of the Hitler kind, one of their own in thinking but coming from a bio-family of ours.
You might be right, thanks.
In other words...a group of nitwits tried taking over...got their asses handed to them...retreated to their mosque where most of them and their leader were killed.
Smite the shepherd and the sheep’ll flee.
Nothing out of the norm here...move along.
