Meghan McCain told Michelle Malkin Tuesday that she would not "shut up" and that the Republican Party should be more inclusive of moderates like herself. The attack by McCain, the Republican daughter of Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), against conservative Malkin is the latest battle in this year's public war of the Republican women pundits.
The latest name-calling started on Friday when, according to McCain, "Malkin was asked which conservative political figure or commentator needs to shut up. Guess who her answer was? Yeah, that's right -- yours truly."
McCain seemingly was first made aware of Malkin's comments by a follower on Twitter. She responded: "bet it sucks, to see my face everywhere" -- Kelly Clarkson @DennisAlcover @michellemalkin just dissed @McCainBlogette during her Arena chat". McCain also tweeted, "chill people, I don't give a f--- about @michellemalkin."
On Tuesday, McCain used decidedly more intellectual language in her column on the DailyBeast, saying Malkin "rounds out the trifecta of extreme female conservative pundits, following Laura Ingraham and Ann Coulter, who believe that I, and Republicans like me, need to shut up and get out of the party."
McCain's strongest point in the column is that the Republican Party needs to be more inclusive: "What do Malkin and the other conservative pundits hope to accomplish by arguing that people 'like me' have no place within the Republican Party?"
But she then waters down her argument with a high school-like comparison of who is the more popular girl: "I don't know exactly what about me threatens them so much, other than that people are listening to me. Malkin has the No. 1 book on The New York Times bestseller hardcover nonfiction list, but I have nearly twice as many Twitter followers as she does."
McCain has 53,668 followers on Twitter to Malkin's 25,927 followers. The NYT does not provide the number of books Malkin has sold to get to the top of the list. McCain, who pushes for a more inclusive, moderate GOP, has been the target of female conservative pundits like Malkin, as well as Ingraham and Coulter. McCain thinks she is the victim of GOP females' schoolyard bullying: "But if people like Michelle Malkin and Ann Coulter think they can bully me into giving up this fight and what I am doing, they are going to be severely disappointed." Ironically, it was McCain who started this war of words among female Republican pundits in March when McCain wrote that "certain individuals continue to perpetuate negative stereotypes about Republicans. Especially Republican women. Who do I feel is the biggest culprit? Ann Coulter. I straight up don't understand this woman or her popularity. I find her offensive, radical, insulting, and confusing all at the same time."
Coulter did not respond to McCain's comments, but Republican radio talk show host Ingraham said, "Memo to Meghan McCain: Enjoy the media coverage while it lasts, but know you're being used. You are the flavor of the month in left-wing media land because you are a Republican bashing the GOP."
Malkin also came to Coulter's defense, writing that "The trouble with Meghan McCain is that, like her father, she has no fixed ideological principles -- conservative, liberal, or otherwise. She seems to have inherited the notion that playing the "maaaaverick" imparts her with moral authority and credibility as a fresh voice for the GOP."
I'm a conservative Republican woman, in the Malkin, Ingraham, Coulter camp politically.
But I also firmly believe the GOP needs to reach out to independent voters and be more inclusive of our party moderates, so I agree more with Meghan McCain's point of view. I believe in the Big Tent Republican Party, and I want anyone who wants to be in our party to feel welcome and their views respected.
A tactical note to my fellow GOP ladies: We are not helping our party get back in power by in-fighting and name- calling. From spending us into generations of national debt to forcing government to run health care, the Democrats have provided us plenty of legitimate issues for us to attack outward instead of inward.
And, as always, remember President Ronald Reagan's 11th commandment: Thou shalt not speak ill of any fellow Republican.
Fat & Dumb Vs. Sexy & Smart. No contest.
Meghan McCain has a long and promising career at MSNBC in her future.
Rabs, when you gonna propose to Petunia?
She’s Ron Reagan, minus the ballet shoes.
Meghan is an idiot, and I think she suspects it too.
BUYLA?
I would commit seppuku on the steps of the Capitol before I would consider proposing to McLame's RINO spawn.
Emily doesn’t make herself sound too smart either
My goodness, Meghan, what the hell do you want? An official ‘Moderate Republican’ membership certificate? It’s a free country, be whatever you want to be, just stop begging for acceptance from people who disagree with you. You have absolutely no right to expect anything other than freedom of speech to express your political views. Anything else, you’re on your own, just like everyone else.
“...Malkin has the No. 1 book on The New York Times bestseller hardcover nonfiction list, but I have nearly twice as many Twitter followers as she does.”
wow.. an accomplished author certainly has no chance against someone who’s popular on...Twitter... /sarc
Seriously, someone needs to tell this child that just because her last name is McCain, it doesn’t mean that she has any credentials or credibility worthy of being heard.
Moderate Repubs are one of the reasons why we are losing the fight for this country.. we don’t need moderation..there is no moderation among the libs.. as far as I’m concerned.
MMCCain’s problem is the same as Ron Paul’s, you never see them in an article bashing the Democrat’s. Every time they open their mouths it’s to tear down the GOP.
It is fine to take your party to task once in a while. But if that is all you do, it’s not really your party anymore, now is it.
Kick them when their up, kick them when their down. (Dirty Laundry)
Also, never forget that it was Ronald Reagan who said emphatically "Let Them Go Their Way."
What are Meghan McCain’s Republican credentials, other than being pro-gay marriage and pro-abortion? Wait a minute... What?
Faux-cons and moderates are killing the GOP
The GOPs losses in recent years are due directly to trying to be “moderate” (aka liberal)
The funny thing is that Ms McCain attacking Ann Coulter....as Coulter has kinda “moderated” herself recently (trashing birthers, etc)
The author states: “. . . and I want anyone who wants to be in our party to feel welcome and their views respected.”
What a dolt! I will not respect Bill Ayers’ views, nor Obama’s, Polosi’s, Rev Wright’s. Need I go on?

Sorry, my dear...Meghan is not a Repub, she just plays one for the left wing media. She's not discussing principles, she's discussing strategy...and she's woefully unqualified for that.
In fact, I've not yet heard what she may believe on any issue; I suspect she doesn't know.
It's entirely consistent to believe in a "big tent" party, but on the other hand, to believe that Meghan should shut up. She's assuming a status not earned...and if her father hadn't built his career on bashing conservatives, the media wouldn't be listening to her now.
Respect, BTW, is earned.
Maybe rabs has that secret longing for her, really dumb girls are attractive to some even if they are a bit chubby
