<I totally remember driving to college, and wondering why Rushs voice sounded so weird.
Wasn’t that strange? It’s one thing for a person who’s been deaf his entire life to have a weird voice, but I found it very strange and interesting that Rush’s voice became so different, I assume from the inability to hear how he sounded and modulate his voice in response. I guess we don’t realize how much we do that as part of normal hearing and speech. You would think you’d just keep talking as usual, though you might not be able to tell how loud you were.

A friend of my son was deaf most of his life and got along fairly well thanks to his parents but it really was difficult for him to take over his dad's appraisal business. Then 5 years ago he went to the House Institute for a coacher implant after his dad heard of Rush's success. I cried the first time I talked to him after the successful surgery. He is 51 years old and has been deaf for about 45 of those years...

Very interesting tubebender. I wonder what it must have been like for him to actually hear words that he only before read on paper. Has your friend ever commented on how things were, or were not as he expected after the operation?

I can’t tell you how he felt as I was too emotional. He had done a property appraisal for us prior to that and my son dealt with him on that for the most part. His dad is a big time wagerer on the ponies via satellite racing out at the fair grounds. He owned a few horses and a couple did fairly well...

Dr. House saved my BIL from total deafness in the early 1950’s. He instructed MIL on what to do to stop infections that were causing other Dr.s at the time to prescribe streptomycin as a cure, but that drug was instrumental in causing nerve damage to the ears. BIL never did get his hearing right, but at least wasn’t totally deaf.
Very thankful to Dr. House.

Prayers for your BIL.
The House Ear Clinic is not well known even in LA. Partially because it is about ears. But the hospital draws people from all over the world.

I remember Rush’s voice at that time, it was hard to understand him. It was a very strange sounding voice. I’m glad he got it fixed.

I remember thinking our radio station must have speeded the show way up to fit in more commercials, because Rush was so high pitched. What a shocker his announcement was, and thank God for modern medical miracles, the House Clinic, and this doctor.
