Gun control on a roll?
Washington Times ^ | Friday, August 7, 2009 | Editorial

Posted on 08/06/2009 11:47:32 PM PDT by JohnRLott

The Senate confirmed Judge Sonia Sotomayor for the Supreme Court yesterday. Gun-control groups are crowing that the 68-31 vote was a major defeat for the National Rifle Association, which actively opposed the nomination. The gun controllers are reading too much into this vote.

The NRA scored Judge Sotomayor's confirmation and ran ads to defeat her, but the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence counted eight NRA-endorsed senators who spurned the powerful gun-rights group to support her nomination. Some Democratic senators, such as Virginia's Mark R. Warner, even took to lecturing the NRA about being hijacked by extremists.

The Sotomayor vote and the successful filibuster of state reciprocity for right-to-carry laws are being hailed as gun-control victories. The two votes supposedly show that politicians "can vote against the NRA and still win, and win in gun-friendly areas," as Paul Helmke, president of the Brady Campaign, phrased it.

But a new Zogby poll suggests that things are a little more complicated. . . .

Win what? The last time I checked, there haven't been any elections of representatives since the nomination vote or the filibuster.

“Win what? The last time I checked, there haven’t been any elections of representatives since the nomination vote or the filibuster.”

Politicians assume we’ll forget, as always.

The NRA won’t forget. They’re watching the “Blue Dogs” too.

The 74 million gun owners who are too lazy and cheap to join a gun group gave their blessings to this.

They’ll never “come for” our guns the way most people envision it. Most likely, they’ll stop by your workplace, question you and taze you...or just taze you...and arrest you. Then when your family comes to bail you out, they execute a search warrant on the vacant home. Kill the dog, take the guns, and get home by suppertime. Like taking candy from babies, it doesn’t require a swat team.

Illegal, you say? Unconstitutional? Why sure. So is taking away your right to keep and bear arms.

Molon labe is Greek for “I’ll resist...tomorrow.”

That will work for a day or two before the willing thugs are whittled down in numbers. After all, they have homes to go back to as well.
Perhaps the eagerness of those so anxious to trample on the rest of us should give pause and consider what they too have to lose.
We are not an ethnic group which has been isolated and disarmed before being rounded up and sent away. We are a nation of mixed peoples who will not go quietly. Take heed.

They never learn their history, do they?

Even up in Canada there has been massive noncompliance with the gun registry and a booming black market. Even up here they’re nervous about putting the hammer all the way down. The situation is uglier than it looks. The Indians certainly aren’t giving up theirs.

Now.... how to get all the free-loading gun owners to join? ;)

If every legal gun owner joined that voting block, gun control would be impossible to pass. Too many gun owners many firearms as “sporting” implements, not liberty in wood and steel.

You mean the 2010 election cycle which actually starts in 2010 so there's 15 months or so until an actual election. Plenty of time for the RATs and RINOs to gather more rope for their hanging tree. I just hope they don't manage to complete the destruction of the nation in that time period.

That will be fine the first few times, even the first few dozen times. They can't do everyone on the same day, or even the same week.

Then folks will get pro-active.

Only if you have spares you need to preserve. Also useful for ammunition you can't carry along.

Otherwise, when it's time to bury 'em it's time to use 'em.

Imagine if people started showing up in cammies with “threatening” t-shirts.

They can’t do it at all if they can’t make the payroll, and where do govts get their money...?

Ah, well. I’m surrounded by optimists. We shall see. IMO, the govt won’t get around to gun confiscation until the last few diehards are left — those who haven’t sold, traded, or surrendered their guns for things like...legal bills, food, electricity, water, and bail money. But when they do get around to confiscation, what on earth are you going to do about it then? It’ll be too late when hardly anyone still has a gun or the will to go out and fire it on your behalf.

Good law-abiding people don’t want to start something. But something has already been started against them, and they don’t want to see it, nor do they feel it very keenly yet.

Oblivious frogs are coming to a boil.

Hmm, I think I learned about stuff like that in Girl Scouting. But we were discussing the government when it no longer worries about hiding its tyrannical intentions. And there are people who have been in intensive training camps, learning to resist torture, avoid capture, and fight evil alone in the wilderness...and still they failed. If you underestimate the professionals, you’re in for a terrible shock.
Yes, crowning all their other advantages, they will have the element of surprise on those of us who hesitate and plan for a perfect, blue-sky day we have spun in our dreams, while tucking treasures in hope chests like little girls.
But of course that’s what we good law-abiders do! Phone trees and burial tubes. Yep!

“We” are those who add careful disclaimers so we won’t get premature visits from the FBI, you big brave keyboarder.

Now, don’t try to rankle me, I’m just the bearer of bad news you need to hear.

It’s ironic, but nobody has to fight, if they just do the correct NOTHING right now. That would be, do nothing instead of enabling the tax addicts. It isn’t a blaze of glory; your chances of that are weaker than your chance of winning the lottery with a free ticket.

However, people too complacent to join a tax rebellion or quit a job that entails withholding taxes, are not going to reenact the gallant last hours of the Alamo, Masada, Thermopylae and Little Big Horn. If you are not fighting already you are not preparing to fight, but to die.

Of course, that’s [disclaimer!] what I’m doing [/disclaimer], but I don’t kid myself that I can outfight or outwit the authorities with a tube, a phone and a closetful of things that go pop.

Been there done that, eh Cupcake? Then you’d know I’m right.
Quit making it sound like the enemy has no brains, no bullets, and no cooperation.

And that's why they need to "reform" health care. Because gun control on you seasoned citizens can be hazardous. They're much safer taking away your health care decisions so you'll croak sooner. And if that doesn't work, some govt shrink will certify that you are too bats#it to own a Norelco, never mind firearms. Whatever it takes.

The dems will stick gun control onto a bill they see as “Must pass”. And, the gun control will make the Clinton years of the AWB look like the good times.

Obama and the Dems will seek these 4 elements in a gun bill

1. An expanded HR 45, gun owner licensing. All gun owners will have to have these licenses, even owners of facilimie weapons (AKA Airsoft and BB). Licenses will only be granted if the records of the applicant are clean (This includes misdemeanors from decades ago). Licenses will have high renewal fees ($100-300/yr). Licensees will be required to hold $1 million in liability insurance. Possession of otherwise permitted weapons (See #3) without license is a felony.

2. Ammunition accountability... All ammo will be required to be microstamped and will be taxed $1/round. All non stamped ammo will be required to be turned in or thrown away. Possession of non-marked ammo is a felony. This part of the act also bans “Cop Killer” bullets. Furthermore, this will require the gun to leave a microstamp of its own on the ammo. (BTW, this will also affect law enforcement and military ammunition stocks, as they will be required to have stamps of their own)

3. Expanded “Assault Weapons” ban— This includes most all semiauto rifles, anything that can be “Bump Fired”, Semiauto handguns, and Semi-auto shotguns. It also includes pump-action shotguns and “Sniper Rifles” AKA your deer rifle. The AWB will also require people with “Prebans” to register their guns as Machine Guns, and that the tax stamp will go up to $10,000 per weapon. If you can’t afford this, you have to turn the weapon in without compensation...

4. Expansion of the Lautenberg amendment: Removes “Domestic Violence” as disqualifier to gun ownership, inserts any misdemeanor as disqualifer... Anyone with a misdemeanor on their record will be prohibited from owning a firearm. This includes DUI and traffic offenses, and offenses decades ago.

Finally, all CCW permits will be voided. Also, all gun and ammo imports will be banned.
