WASHINGTON -- The Pentagon is asking Congress for money to speed deployment of the 30,000-pound Massive Ordnance Penetrator bunker busting super bomb on the B-2 stealth bomber for potential use in heavily defended areas of the world, such as Iran and North Korea.

The U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) asked Congress for permission to move $68 million in the 2010 DOD budget to the Massive Ordnance Penetrator bunker buster program to enable the first four super bombs can be carried by the B-2 stealth bomber by next year, according to published reports.

Sorry, cant spend the cash on bombs, since we are supporting Car companies and banks, not to mention welfare queens and ABortions on demand.
Now if the military wants money for free condoms and paintings of the cross dipped in urine............

RE: supporting Car companies...

Have read that the Idiot’s Cash Clunker deal looks to spend $3 billion to buy and destroy about 750,000 cars.

My concern is, they will build the bombs but b. hussein will never give the order to use them.

Excuse me if I’m wrong but I read a story ab out two weeks ago championing the fact that Air Froce engineers and technicians have already made one B2 physically ready to carry the MOP and to be able to deliver it.

So one bird already has the capabilities and this may just be a request for the funding to do it on all of them.

Sounds like some capitalistic tinkering with the 0bamunist is in order here: crush the clunkers into a ball with ordnance in the center. This gets rid of clunkers, and then we have 750,000 MOAB-like “things” to drop on bunkers where needed.

Yeah. What a crock. If the car companies wanted to sell cars, why dont they make cars that are any good? Instead of giving people 4500$ for POS cars that before could only fetch around 500$ for slavage value.
Just more apeasement for the UAW and Goverment motors.

FY09 budget included funds for OFP mods to the jets.

The “one” jet is a test jet, and that means it is instrumented for test drops (cameras, telemetric instruments, safe separation validation, etc, as well as expenses for range scheduling and chase planes. . .etc)

Additional funds are for RDT&E. . .to ensure the MOP works as planned..

How much did we spend to develop and test the Mother of all bombs, did we use it, hell no and they will not use this one either.MOAB was designed to replace the 15,000-lb. BLU-82 used in Vietnam, the 1991 Persian Gulf war, and against tunnel complexes in Afghanistan. Few test details are available, but blast effects extended for "hundreds of yards," said an AFRL official at the Eglin AFB, Fla., test site.

The new, 30-ft.-long, 40.5-in.-dia. weapon could be used to collapse tunnels, clear broad swaths through mine fields and barbed wire entanglements, or as an anti-personnel weapon against entrenched troops. Of the bomb's weight, 9 tons are explosives. The Air Force also has at least considered a 30,000-lb. MOAB version.

In a parallel program, the Air Force is working on a 30,000-lb. penetrator weapon, designed along the same lines as MOAB. Called "Big BLU," it also is designed for launch from a B-2. The added mass would give the weapon greater penetration for hitting targets buried deep underground. Currently, the Air Force uses 5,000-lb.- class GBU-28s and GBU-37s as its largest penetrating bomb.

And this last pargraph says we have already done this, another cash cow defense contractor trying to get rich.http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/874758/posts

MOP is not MOAB.

MOAB is a non-penetrator.

MOP is a specific guided weapon to penetrate HDBT.

Specific weapon for a specific target set.

MOAB is a completely different weapon for a different target set/effect.

MOAB can’t do the MOP mission.

Ordnance like this won’t be needed in future. They, the enemy, have already succeeded in taking our headquarters. Game-Set-Match....over......

No the air force built and tested a MOAB, and build six are so bombs, they then trashed them for salvage. They were a waste of money. They also built a deep penetrator. “In a parallel program, the Air Force is working on a 30,000-lb. penetrator weapon, designed along the same lines as MOAB. Called “Big BLU,” it also is designed for launch from a B-2. The added mass would give the weapon greater penetration for hitting targets buried deep underground. Yours is the William Proxmire School of Defense Spending: If it has wings it should be good enough to be a fighter, a bomber, an anti-submarine warfare plane and an AEW&C.
