Something truly astonishing appeared in a Washington Post column on July 25, 2009 (click here to view). It was written by Frank Mankiewicz, former press secretary to Senator Robert F. Kennedy (D-NY) and the man who is perhaps most widely remembered for announcing RFK's death in June 1968. Mankiewicz was also the political director of Democratic presidential nominee George McGovern's losing 1972 campaign. The column contained a two-fold revelation about the just-deceased Walter Cronkite, the longtime CBS News anchorman. Here are the disclosures, in Mankiewicz' own words:
They are TOOLS of the real insiders.
Proving once and for all that Larry Sabato is an ivory tower egghead. I'm stunned that he is stunned by this. Cronklite's bias was obvious for all to see, and I used to watch him regularly during the Vietnam era. I never had a doubt he was anti-war/left-leaning.

Oh, I thought you were using “talking Cronkite” here as a euphemism for “talking excrement”...
Final note: my understanding is that the famous line "Power corrupts" is not (just) a statement about the corruption that occurs to the individual who holds great power. The line is more precisely about the advisers and friends of the powerful individual -- it is the sycophantic followers of powerful men who become truly corrupted by the power. This is the state of journalists. Due to their activist nature, this affects Leftists more than conservative journalists (who, let it be said, are not completely immune).
The most trusted voice of Treason maybe nothing more than a little tiny Man who got a big Job and did not know much about American History.
Only goes to prove that Larry Sabato is a victim of the myth and propaganda called “objective journalism,” which does not now and never did exist in America or anywhere else on earth.
The lie isn’t and wasn’t that Cronkite is a flaming liberal Democrat, the lie is that SeeBS convinced America that he wasn’t.
“Objective journalist” is one of the big American lies of the 20th century.
Thank God that the Internet and other media are killing that lie in the 21st Century.
In Britain the media began to become important about 1800: i.e. The Times. In America it was much later probably Hearst. FDR used and controlled the media in the 1930’s and 1940’s. Film (a visual medium) did not loom as large as it did to the TV generation. The media began actively participating in control(governing) after WWII. Television accelerated the process. In my opinion it is not the internet that has anything to do with the death of the media it is the fact that people have vast experience checking the statements of the media creatures against reality and the media creatures fail. In addition, people have properly become cynical about their governor’s which includes the media.

This is one reason for the rise of conspiracy theories. Americans know they are being lied to by their "elite", by their "opinion-leaders". What's left to do, go outside the elite to find info. If you're interested in Obama's personal history and beliefs, who has supplied more and better information? The New York Times (or any MSM organ) or Sean Hannity or World Net Daily or any right-wing fringe talkradio host? Why should the NY Times have any status at all?
I never watched the guy during that era. Had to go outside and turn the antenna in a different direction to get a CBS station, so my family watched Huntley-Brinkley evening news for years. I do recall his very damaging misreporting during Tet of 1968, and have, of course, read about that often since.
