The local council – which has a legal duty anyway to provide formal sites for travellers – said it could not intervene at this stage. So the town council has to provide vagrants who have threatened the populous with armed violence with a place to live? The only one I can think of has bars on the windows.

“Travellers” is a specific term that denotes people who are inherently antisocial, criminal, thieves. In the US they have historically stemmed from the Bajou/Louisiana areas, Creole type areas. They are con men, gypsies. Some try cons where they offer roof repair, or to put a new top on your driveway (that washes off when it rains), crap like that. All full of scams and lies.
